When a man is killed generally the first thing the police do is to look for the weapon and if possible secure it. There were three officers of the law along with Mr. Spracklin and it seems strange that they did not at once secure Trumble‘s gunâ€"if he Mrs. Trumble swears that her husâ€" band had no gun. An outsider nâ€"mâ€" ed Smith swore that Trumble had no gun. The officers who were with Spracklin swore that Trumble had a gun; and the .question immediately arises ‘Why did these officers not seâ€" cure that: gun? One question that intrudes itselt into the enquiring ming is ‘What beâ€" came of Trumble‘s gun? % This puts the here in pretty 1 ter. rod bac Spracklin says that he fired in selfâ€" defence. He says that Trumble pointed a gun at him and that he im« mediately fired â€" his own gun and killed Trumble. y Where is the Trumble Gun? Th West of GRIMSSY very litt been accomplished and the w tem seems to be in a muddle, looks to me as if there was. thing radically wrone som There has been no charge laid against Spracklin in any court whatâ€" everâ€"and present appearances are that no charge will be laid;â€"conseâ€" quently "there will be no legal invesâ€" tigation to show to what extent Mr. Spracklin was,.to blame <~for killing Beverly Trumble. Several people have asked me why I made no comment on the killing of Beverly Trumble by the Rev. J.O. L. Spracklin in Trumble‘s hotel at Sandwich on Saturday morning Novâ€" ember 6 in the ‘early hours of that day. €5i. And talking atbut the whiskey disâ€" pensary brings to my mind the fact that the Government is profiteering on whiskeyâ€"the profits for the past year made by the Government On whiskey, running into the millions of dollarsâ€"anq I have no doubt but that the Government has left itself open to ;prosecution for . profiteering if the matter was looked into. _ The Murder of Trumble vith this ackK Ken thinks if it was to C was a very wise moye as t after a very hard frost i1 r will very seldom revive & bli« THE PEOPLE‘S$ pA JAS. Trumble was not killed instantly. He lived fortyâ€"five . minutes. â€" Withâ€" out a doubt the man could have fired his revolverâ€"if he haq oneâ€"a dozen times after he was shot; if he so wish ed. This has occurred in hundreds of cases on the battlefield when soldiers were sniped @when« they had their finger on the trigger of <their rifle and invariably the gun < was fired even after they fell . although they were killed instantly. Spr'@cklin swore that Trumble‘s gun was fully eocked. If it was fulâ€" ly cocked the assumption is that Trumble‘s finger was on the trigâ€" gar. If Trumble haq a fully , cocked revolver in his hand and . his finger on the trigger of it why did he not shoot Spracklin after Spracklin had shot himâ€"voluntarily or involuntarâ€" ily 2 *9 One man escapes with a light punâ€" ishment for firing a revolverâ€"but Trumble is killed for merely pointng his revolver at another man and the man who killed him goes free withâ€" out even a trial. *5, And right here another thought inâ€" trudes itself and that is that after Trumble was shot he did not fire his revolverâ€"if he had oneâ€"although he lived for fortyâ€"five minutes. Surely Trumble was no more guilâ€" % ty in the eyes of the law for pointing @ eun at aiman‘who came into ° his | * house in the dead of night than a | man could be who fired a revolver |w at another man to hit him but did | & not do so. 7@ 3: RWa#e have in our police courts most weekly cases where men ha fired revolvers at othér men but hot injure them and these men : allowed to zo on light punishneent ;._,' STA\BLISHED 1885 c and Publishers. eral Manager isiness Manager .. Therefore Spracklin as far as his visit to the Trumble home ‘is conâ€" cerned was merely on an experimentâ€" al trip. A The next point that comes up 18 with regard to the. gun itself. Did Trumble have a gun?â€"and did he acâ€" tually point it â€" at Spracklin? Was the gun loaded and cocked ?â€"What became of the gun?â€"Why did the ofâ€" ficers not secure it?â€"and why "did Trumble not fire it after he had been shot?â€" 2"?: °.2 } Another angq a very strong reason why a legal court should decide upon this matter is the fact that if any man shoots down another man, in this Province of Ontarioâ€"and especâ€" ially in the District where this recent trawedy occurred; and that man °Sâ€" capes without even. a magistrate‘s prial it establishes a precedent ,whi'ch other menâ€"following the desperate same of rumâ€"runningâ€"may take ad. | ofe Repeatedly there has been gunfire in this rumâ€"running District; and the climax has been reached when one of the License Inspectors shoots down‘ and kills a man in his own houseâ€"and apparently goes scotâ€"free. uie Yie «Lo oBo oBe eBe aBe aBe 1 En aBe aBe aBe aBe aBe aBe abe abe oBe aBe afe abe aBe aBe abe abe aBe aBe aBe aBe aBe oZe ofe afe obe ohe ofe aBe ofe abe aBe aSo ofe afe ate ofe ote ofe eBe afe afe ofe afe ofe Dentist _ > Office over J.
