The complaints filed by the Board against the two canning companies, charge that they have in association with various other incorporated com- panies and persons, at present un- known, formed and are now operat- ing combines which have relation to, canned fruits, vegetables, berries and other canned goods. It is charged these combines are based .upon actual or tacit agreements and that they have effected limiting facilities for producing, manufacturing, supplying, storing and dealing in canned goods and also the fixing ot a common and resale price, enhancing the cost of goods. This trust or monopoly has, it is stated, been formed, and is act- ing to the detriment of the public, both consumers and producers. . , ' In accordance with a motion mas- sed at the last General M-eting of the Branch, the rooms will be occu- pied by the Annual Convention of the Niagara Peninsula Fruit Growers' Association on Wednesday afternoon and evening March 10-9rom twelve o'elock, noon. LIVINGSTON & SONS BANNERS (llllillllili If present plans of the Dominion Express company are carried into operation and indications are that that they will, there will be estab- lished between Hamilton and St. Catharines on March 1, a motor- truck expreSS service, which will be the ifrst of its kind in Canada. It is the intention of the company, which is without direct rail communication between Hamilton and the Garden City, as well as other towns in the fruit belt, to install the motor ser- vices to expedite delivery and take care of its greatly increased business. At present goods consigned to St. Catharines from or through Hamilton are forwarded via H. G. & B. rail- way to Beamsville., from where they are transported hy stage to their des- tination. This causes not only un- necessary handling of freight, but de lay in transit and does not conform with the company’s standard of! effi- ciency. Speaking to the Spectator Satur- day morning, C. A. Dobson, local agent, said that though the question of establishing a truck express had been under consideration but a few weeks, it was likely to be a reality, by the end ot this month. The plans called for two trips in both directions daily and timed in accordance with the arrival and departure of trains to and from Hamilton. Details, how- ever, had not been worked out fully, but the establishment of the new ser- vice was almost certain. Mr. Bob.. son said that motor-trucks had been utilized by express companies to meet similar conditions in the United Appearing in "Castles in the Air" at Moore’s Theatre on Saturday Night; Feb. 27th IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIIlIlIIIIIllllllllfllllllll "tmimi-multi-tttitem-rail-item"" ,iy////////////////////////////////////a MOTOR TRUCK EXPRESS .
