A former prominent businessman and resident of Grimsby passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, on Monday afternoon, in the person of Charles Burnett Laing.

Deceased was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, the son of Reuben and Elizabeth (Burnett) Laing and while a very young man he came to the United States, latterly coming to Canada and Grimsby in 1908 with the late John Hewitt. He was a motor mechanic and for many years was in the garage business in Grimsby with Mr. Frank E. Russ. He served on town council for some years and always took an active interest in municipal affairs.

He is survived by his wife, the former Flossie Smye, one son, Jack of Burlington, a sister, Mrs. Andrew Tough of Toronto, four sisters, and two brothers in Scotland. A daughter, Florence, predeceased him a year ago.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Stonehouse Funeral Home this (Thursday) afternoon by Rev. Dr. Duncan of Grimsby Baptist Church at 3 o'clock. Interment will be in the family plot in Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
