\ SPORTS PANIC BUTTON Ken Avarell gave us quite a turn Tuesday in his Arena office when he calmly announced o ver t he phone that he was practically giving away his goalie. After we pushed the panic button the Dodger manager,, who is quite the practical joker, assured this corner that Stu Chapman was not on the auction block. Apparently the deal concerned temporary loan of subâ€" goalie Graham Sinclair to Orillia of the Intermediate A group, and the guy on the other end of the wire was an old acquaintance of ours, Bill MeGill. McGill lost the services of his regular, Bob by Shropshire through injury. and an O.H.A. clause proâ€" vides for the borrowing of a replacement from any othâ€" er club until the regular man gets back. This should please Sinclair, who has been staryâ€" ing for action in this early season while Chapman has been doing regular duty for Weston, and if McGill is as shrewd a coach as a businessman, Graham will have lots of support up front to protect his good record. CHAPMAN REPORT . When we became unstuck from the ceiling, after hitting the roof to the delight of a gleeful Mr. Avarell, and all was explained, Ken got down to some serious discussion. Chapman could dissolve Dodgers‘ only real probâ€" lem over the past two seasons, providing them with the type of netminding they need to become sound conâ€" tenders in the 13 team race this term. Former goalie Paul Robichaud showed flashes of brilliance last year, but failed the big test when the team started going downhill as a group over the final half of the season. With Sinclair replacing Billy Burton as second string this fall, Avarell could be taking a lesâ€" sion from Leafs with a pair of shutout twins to brace up his new club. Apart from the Western division, toughest fight will be with Neil McNeil of the Eastern group, who are now Marlies number one farm club. This leaves Lakeâ€" shore, still an affiliate of Marlies, out in left field as far as fresh talent is concerned and they will not be half the problem they were last spring. All in all. it looks like a roughie for Weston over the next two â€" dozen games. This year finds us out on a limb again. Before the opening game this month we predicted that Weston would receive the most trouble from Etobicoke Indians, a brand new 1963 entry in the Metro loop. O ~-"S.(.)*f;r: i‘n&iawr{s have a six game undefeated record, and Dodgers best outcome in two games with the upâ€" starts is a single point gleaned with a tie last Friday night. CRYSTAL BALL Last fall we made a prediction â€" that Marlie reinâ€" forced Lakeshore Goodyears would be Dodgers main opposition for the Metro title, Lakeshore knocked out Weston easily in the final playoffs after Dodgers had won the pennant. Earlier in the week Avarell had predicted an end to Etobiâ€" coke‘s walkâ€"away with the wesâ€" tern division leadership, claimâ€" ing his crew would down Indiâ€" ans by at least three goals, Dodâ€" gers were lucky to come up with a tie on the night‘s performance. Dodger‘s only bright spot in the game was netminder Stu Chapman, who seemed eager to prove that Avarell has finally landed a goalie who can kick Each team scored one goal per period, with Weston always trailâ€" ing until the final stanza when Jocko Ptashnik teamed with Arâ€" chie Yurkiw and Dave Earl to give Dodgers the edge for the first time in the game at the 34 them out from any angle, at times without too much support from the second wall.
