This is the second project in Alderwood for the two, who also built the apartment block across the highway. Both started small in the construction business working their way up from house buildâ€" ing, after plying trades, Special wing on this building is tailâ€" ored for family living. Trpin and Wandich were among first in business to include balconies on apartment buildings Photo by Stan Windrim Two Started From Scratch Reach Multiâ€" Storey Apts. The latest change in Alderâ€" wood‘s skyline can be credited to two men. who 10 years ago wouldn‘t have dreamed of changâ€" ing a $100â€"bill & John Trpin and Alex Wandich, both had modest beginnings and admit that their success today as builders is not something they would have predicted 10 years ago John artived at Montreal in 1948 with a $5 bill in his pocket ame a chest of carpenter‘s tools in kis hand. As an immigrant unâ€" dér the passage pay plan he was contracted to work on a farm for one year before starting out on his own in this country. After serving his term "milkâ€" ing cows", he started on construcâ€" tion work and after a time of building houses turned to apartâ€" ment building and a partnership with Alex Wandich. When he reached 14 years of age, his father died and@ he was foriced to leave school to support his mmother. Seeking a job with a good income, he attended night school and became a toolmaker. Alex wasn‘t exactly born with aâ€" silver spoon in his mouth either, When Alex was happily engagâ€" ed in his trade, a subâ€"divider deâ€" cided the house in which Alex and his family were living would be a good spot to purchase The house was sold and Alex turned his talents to building a new one. While he was building this new house Alex realized this was something that he realiy had a feeling for and so decided to conâ€" tinue on in this.line. He dropped his toolmaking and started buildâ€" ing. First it was houses, then duâ€" plexes. then triplexes In 1959. he and Trpin decided LAKESHORE RIDING MURRAY COTTERILL R. ALAN EAGLESON DAVID J. We have been trying to convince builders for years that a Brown‘s Line location in Alderw ood would be a prime spot for apartâ€" ment living. Alex and John saw the possibilities and are now owners of two apartment blocks on the highway".
