Building Almost Doubles Still Not Bursting Seams _ A tremendous upsurge in houseâ€"building was responsible for a 26 per cent ($6.5 million) increase in the total value of building permits issued in Metropolitan Toronte in August, according to The Toronto Real Estate Board. ‘TREB President R. W. Telford said plans were approved in the City of Toronto, North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough to allow $30,991,070 in buildings last month compared to $24,489,297 in building permits in August last year. The aggregate permit value in the four municipalities (which rccount for 85 per cent of Metro‘s overall construction) up to the end of August this year was $244,763,103 compared to $246,547,308 in the corresponding eightâ€"month period of 1962. "Metro Toronto accounts for about 40 per cent of all Ontario‘s construction and oneâ€"seventh of the construction across Canada," Mr. Telford noted. > The Leaside Realtor, who heads the 2.700â€"member TREB, predicted the upswing would continue throughout the fall and winter months. He forecasts a record $7.650,000,000 construction volume for Canada this year.
