Ruby 1.10 Taylor 1.75 307 Long Time Weston Resident | Leaves 13 Great Grandchildren Mr. Richard Henry Beamish, well â€" known in : Weston for 89 years, died on April 2 at the Home For The Aged in Newâ€" market, where he had lived for the last two years. He was born on Nov. 6, 1874, in a farm house on Main St.. in Weston where Little Brothers is today. He attended Weston Pubâ€" lie School which was then locatâ€" ed on Main St. between Rectory Rd. and Coulter Ave. This area is now apartment buildings. |_With the exception of his last ‘two years, Mr. Beamish lived in | Weston all his life. His longest | stay in one house was on Coulter | Ave. for 38 years. Mr. Beamish played football for Weston, and lacrosse for Dr. Pearson of Mount Dennis. In 1902 he married Violet Eva May LaRose. Their three daughâ€" ters, Laura, Olive and ~Myrtle, were later joined by an adopted son, Gerald. For several years, Mr. Beamâ€" ish worked for various Weston employers; Thompson B a ke Shop, Campbell Flour Mill, Wesâ€" ton Flour and Seed Store, Ruâ€" doiph Coal, Weston Golf Club and St. Philip‘s Church. In 1917, he became owner of a dairy on Main St. near Church St., and could be seen deliverâ€" ing milk with his horse and wagon. During the second World War he worked for Fred Rowntree as caretaker at Weston Presbyâ€" terian Church. This was his last job, which he held until his late sixties. His daughter Laura died when‘ she was 18, and he lost his wife | in 1932 and his adopted son in | 1934. I Mr. Beamish never drove a car, but he loved to go for walks, smoking his pipe. He went for a daily walk until he was 82. The new retreat house is set in 12 acres of rolling wooded land. The quiet seclusion of the grounds is considered to be ideal for a retreat house. The Queen of Apostles Reâ€" treat House has accommodation for 67 persons. Folding, soundâ€" proof doors permit a speedy conversion of rooms to either single or double accommodation, depending upon the type of reâ€" treat to be held. The Oblate Fathers have been active in the retreat movement in Canada for more than a quarâ€" ter of a century. The Order now conducts retreats at its 16 reâ€" treat houses in Canada, as well as at 10 others in the United States. Father Leo J.
