The establishment of a liquor outlet was also mentioned by merchants and councillors as a way to entice more business to the town. Toronto Girl Wins Photo First At Pioneer Village Competition Councillor Lindsay Cott. himâ€" self a Weston retail merchant. agrees that a new association should be formed. "If it is formed, it should have a new executive of young men with new ideas," he said. "We need new blood if we are to keep the spark going. otherwise there is a tendancy to get bogâ€" ged down." The old association was "harpâ€" coned by a few people for reaâ€" sons unknown to me," he allegâ€" ed. "They have no one to blame but themselves â€" they are their own. worse enemies when it comes to sticking together," he added. Mayor George Bull disagrees with Councillor Cott on one point. He believes that Weston merchants will have to look to the ‘old timers‘ for a good exâ€" ecutive. ‘"We need new blood, but in order to make the association work. we must have the old esâ€" tablished business men of Wesâ€" ton to lead it. They have a stake in _the town, whereas some of the younger men are not resiâ€" dents of the area." he stated. Councillor C,. W. Boddington. says in common with other memâ€" bers of council that they will give all the assistance within their power to the efforts of an association. In ‘ his opinion, the present association is inactive, and he feels that there are plenty of active businessmen in town who should get together and help solve some of the present prob lems. "If we had an active as sociation in town. it would be helpful to Council in formin® bylaws. as sometimes an opinion from businessmen is needed beâ€" fore passing a law." he said. Councillor Boddington suggesâ€" ted â€" as did other councillors and merchants, that the organiâ€" zation should engage in an adâ€" vertising campaign and runm shopping specials. "We have reached a point now where Weston is on a comâ€" petitive basis with the shopping plazas, and at present we are losing customers to them," he said. .
