ama@lgamation. w. One.thing leads to another and ‘dtg' hext :question was WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THIS Dropped around to the mayor‘s office early this week for a chat with Dick Seagrave . . . just thought â€" We‘d â€" talk over a few points that we had on our mind and see what was cooking curâ€" rently in the inner sanctum at town hall. First question dealt with amalâ€" gamation; unjfication and what have you. We asked him outright WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH REGARD TO THESE TWO SUBâ€" JECT$? The mayor informed us that there has been little apparent dévelopment since the‘ hearings were completed several months ago. It is interesting to note, he sAid, that unification rather than outright amalgamation of the 13 municipalities has been suggested. In anyâ€"cage His Worship has it on good authority that the chairman of the Ontario Municipal Board is anxious. to.complete his report as lobl! ‘as‘\ possible. Until such a time as this is made public it is anybody‘s guessâ€"as to what will be the result of Toronto‘s request for Seagrave tells us that his personal view is that there must be unifiâ€" cation of essential services such as water, transportation, arterial roadways and sewage if this greater Toronto area is to develop as it should. He has always argued, the mayor pointed out, that problems in the metropolitan area can be solved by unification of: certain services. Figuring that SUBJECT, ~MR. MAYOR! The answer was yes, definitely, For example, Mr. Seaâ€" grave pointed out that sewage disâ€" posal is being made available to North York and it is possible that Etobicoke will ask for similar service. Weston _ also supplies water to North York and Etobiâ€" coke. Police and fire services are always availgble to our neighborâ€" ing municipalities, the mayor went on to say; they, in turn, asgist Weston should the need arise. Seems to us that the Weston Band has always had a staunch supporter in Mayor Seagrave and seeking to keep on the right side of him we asked WHAT DO YOU THINK _ OF THE BAND‘S LATEST SERIES, With the sumâ€" mer band concerts now completed) the mayor wished, on behalf of all the citizens, to express his sinâ€" cere thanks and appreciation for the efforts of Sunday concerts to the people. It was, he said, pleasâ€" ing to observe that more and more citizens were taking advantige of their fine local band and he was hopeful that the band would soon announce plans for a winter series. SHOCK ABSORBERS mae. All bandsmen are donating their time and «alents. Speaking of finances, we pointed out to His Worship that currently the Victorian Order of Nurses it carrying on a financial campaign within the town. The mayor was most positive in his support of the agency and wanted to point out once again to us all that the VON gives gratis service and is a vital community need and deséryvâ€" ing of the support of all residents. Wallace Bunton, SA, Retires After 46 Years Of Prison Work He finds that today‘s criminals are mostly young men between 16 and 25, compared to the early days of his work when the older men were in the majority and feels that the present trend towards crime on the part of mere youths is directly traceable to the home, whether it be poor or in comfortable circumâ€" stances and suggested that a remâ€" Around this time we ran out of questions and besides it was getâ€" ting on for ten o‘clock and as any good reporter knows, it is time for & working man‘s coffee . . . so away we went. into line. We were surprised to learn, when we asked the question streets there was a loss of as many as forty numbers between adjoining residences. Reâ€"numberâ€" ing has been necessary on Church, King, Vimy and on the north side of Edmond _ Avenue. © Several months ago council suggested that this situation be corrected and reâ€" cently & letter citing the change as well as a new set of numbers was sent to the householders conâ€" cerned. The town assessor has also given notice of all address changes to the Post Office, Bell Telephone, Board of Education, Public Utiliâ€" ties Comntission, Public Health Nurses, City Directory and the Police and Fire Departments. Asked if the people could further help in this necessary change the mayor said yes, they could aid a gréat deal by notifying their friends and business acquaintances and they should follow the instrucâ€" tions mentioned in the letter reâ€" céived from the assessor. Col. Bunâ€" ton was strong in his praise of the Boy Scout movement and said in his 46 years of experience with prisoners he had come across very few Scouts. He also claimed that the churches and the schools have an opportunity in the prevention of youth crimes. Although he is officially retiring as head of the Salvation Army‘s prison work he expects to spend many long years helping prisoners whéerever the need may be found. It is expected that some 2,000 persons will qualify for the new Disabled Persons‘ Allowances as of Sept. 1, it was stated by the Hon. W. A. Goodfellow, Ontario‘s Minâ€" ister of Public Welfare. "While the legislation was passâ€" ed at the last session of the legisâ€" lature and has only been effective since July 1, it is evident that many of our most seriously disâ€" abled persons will benefit to the extent of $40 monthly," Mr. Goodâ€" fellow stated. Disabled Persons Allowance A Fact Inasmuch as The Disabled Perâ€" sons‘ Allowances Act is new, the qualifications are restrictive, with the emphasis being placed on home care rather than institutional care. A current catalogue of U.S. Government films lists the title "Economy is Everybody‘s Busiâ€" nessâ€"Functions of the Federal Government as 2 management organization." At the first glance we were startledâ€"we thought it read, "Economy is Everybody‘s Business â€" Excopt the Federal Government‘s." 123458 The major types of disabilities appear to be paralysis, including cerebral palsy and polio cases; mental defectives; arthritics who are deformed or suffering from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthâ€" ritis; neurological diseases, such as multiple and disseminated sclerosis and Parkinson‘s disease.
