The writer of the epistle to the Why Is It Necessary? | â€"|Hebrews has given,.us this injuncâ€" Wh{l Is It Necessary . The world needs Christianity. A mere democracy is not sufficient. Such a democracy, in which God has no central and ruling place, can no more assure the wor%d of peace and security than a state which is totalitarian. Our men have fought to rid the world of Nazism. The Church must go on fighting to rid the world of that greed, selfishness and hate which are the essence of Nazism. The world‘s only hope of sanity and security lies in a society which is not only democratic but Chrisâ€" tian. It is the task of the Church to build up a majority opinion which‘ is Christian and whic?\ will insist that the political and indusâ€" trial and social relationships of life be based on the Christian principles of tolerance and mutual underâ€" standing, faith and fellowship. _ The world needs more and better Christians! What Can It Accomplish? It can awaken Anglicans everyâ€" where to the needs of the times which the Church is facing, and the imperative necessity of every memâ€" ber enlisting for service in this great task and doing his or her full share of the work. And it can, if these spiritual obâ€" jectives are successful, also produce the money needed to carry out an lggressive and concrete grogrnm of advance, at home and abroad. Some of the Objectives . ‘ Here are some of the concrete objectives, spiritual and financial, which the Anglican Advance Apâ€" peal hopes to attain, and can attain, ‘ if every Anglican does his part: 1. To make Anglicans more truly Christian. 2. To teach them about their Church, her nature, history and work. 8. To rouse in them a greater sense of responsibility as well as privilege. 4. To strengthen the Church‘s work in all her present parâ€" ishes, large and small. 8. To strengthen her spiritual, educational and social work in all the missionary fields where she is now working. 6. To make available additional Clergy for new parishes. 7. To strengthen the Pension Fund of the Church, especially as it applies to Clergy in Missionary Dioceses. 8. To help the Mother Church in j England and the Churches in Europe, in their work of reâ€" habilitation. _ 9. To provide training in leaderâ€" . ship for the Youth of the Church. 10. To assist all the Dioceses in meeting their own local needs. There is no mean work, save that which is sordidly selfish; no religious work, save that which is morally wrong; in every sphere of life theé)ost of honor is the post of duty.â€"E. H. (Heâ€" brews 13:2), What are angels? In "Science and health with key to the scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, its author, writes (pp. 298, 299): "Angels are pure thoughts from God, winged with truth and love, no matter what their individualism may be. Human conjecture confers upon angels its own forms of thought, marked with superstitious cutlines, making them human creaâ€" tures with suggestive feathers; but this is only fancy." This helps us to see that God guides us with angelic messages, or ideas, lighting our pathway with illumined thought. We can feel the presence of these angels of God, and we find in these ideas emanating from Him the very guidance we need, the comfort in affliction, or the strength and fiourage needed in some fearful our. A student of Christian Science was confronted with the necessity of moving from the dwelling which she occupied, because she did not have sufgiciem funds with which to pay rent. Burdened with anxiety, she attended a Wednesday evening meeting at the local Christian Sciâ€" ence church, and during the reading of the scriptures she heard these stirring words (Psalms 16:8) "I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved." She was heartened by that comâ€" forting assurance, and went home and spent the remainder of the night in prayer to God for enâ€" lightenment and guidance. At dawn, an idea came to her to fo to a certain firm in that city and ask for employment. She obeyed this impulâ€" sion, and immediately secured a lucrative position. _ _ â€" When we listen for God‘s voice, we â€" shall receive the guiding thought we need. It may at first seem a "stranger" to our darkened human sense, but when we enterâ€" tain it, we find it to be an angelic message, a spiritual idea to meet our reed.
