The results of the various competiâ€" tions are most interesting, giving as they do an unmistakable creedance to the undoubted value of this well known model, so common to the eye in this vicinity by the reason of the proximity of the plant where they are now asâ€" sembled in this country for distribuâ€" tion to the Dominion services as well Although the race is open to all types of aircrafe, it automatically diâ€" vides itself into two main . classes. Light airplanes having engines of 100 horsepower or less, and high powered machines, such as fighters and other military types powered by engines of about 400 horsepower. _ j Practically every British aircraft and engine constructor was representâ€" ed by one or more entries ranging from 40 to 500 horsepower. All the standard types of light aeroplanes were included in the record field of 56 entries, although the popular choice of the ‘Gipsyâ€"Moth‘ was unmistakably apparent. Race Open To |All Types Of Machines In this connection, as some measure of proof of the reliability and capabilâ€" ity of this little ‘Moth‘ plane, as it is now {amiliarly called, it is interesting to note the records attained by it in the recent tests operated under the 1929 King‘s Cup Air Race. For this race His Majesty the King presents annually a cup to be competed for, by British pilots flying British planes. This is considered the outstanding sporting event in the British Aeronauâ€" tical Calendar. It takes the form of a two day‘s handicap race round Great Britain, and was this year flown on July 5th and 6th, over a course of 1176 miles in length. _ _ 5 3 There is reason to admire the intriâ€" cate movements in which the smaller planes are put through by that intreâ€" pid master of the air, Mr. E. Leigh Capreol, in the course of which he tests the machines that are assembled in the De Haviland Plant, by these evâ€" olutions, thereby aiming to locate the points of strain and where the need may be shown for some further adâ€" justment before the plane is forwardâ€" ed to whatever destination it is asâ€" signed. There are many citizens in the vicinâ€" ity of the north west section of the City of Toronto, the Town of Weston and the districts of Mount Dennis and North York Township, who have adâ€" mired the manouvers of the airplanes that are operating in the district from the De Lesseps Aerodrome, where the home of the Deâ€" Haviland Aircraft Limited and the rendevouz of the maâ€" chines of Airways Limited is located. Records Now Exist to Prove That the Experimental Stage of the Airplane is Past Wanted in Weston to sell highâ€"class 9% Security, payâ€" ing regular monthly dividends, with participation in Common Stock of great future possibilities. L. G. Richardson, R.N., in his nearly three year old machine; 2nd, Gipsy Moth, Alan S. Butler; 3rd, Gipsy Moth, Capt. G. De Haviland, A.F.C.; 5th, Gipsy Moth, J. D. Irving; 6th, Gipsy Moth, A. C. M. Jackman. Johnny Walker Has Five Proâ€" fessional Swimmers in Trainâ€" ing At Port Credit In the course of the meet the ‘Moth‘ was recorded as the fastest light airâ€" plane in the race, when Alan S. Butâ€" ler flying his with a 100 HP standâ€" ard Gipsy engine completed the course at an average speed of 118.7 miles per hour. MARATAON SWIMMERS TRAIN AT PT. CRED!T There were two other women enâ€" trants, Mrs. A. Butler and Lady Bailâ€" ey, who finished respectively fourâ€" teenth and twentyâ€"first. All three ladies flew ‘Gipsyâ€"Moths.‘ Previous to this year the De Haviland products have taken the prize in the preceedâ€" ing four years, when in 1925, a D.H. 50 flown by Sir Alan Cobham, won; In 1926, a ‘Moth‘ by Capt. H. S. Broad, was first, and in the following year, Capt. W. L. Hope, brought in a ‘moth‘ first and in 1928, a Gipsyâ€"Moth by the same flyer was first. All Sufficient Record Further Enhaneâ€" ed By Facts As if this record were not of sufâ€" ficient proof of the reliability of this very popular little plane, says ‘The Ranger‘ then maybe the record of the machine in the reliability tests should be given. These show, that of 41 aircraft of all types\, that started 16 were Gipsy Moths. Out of .which some 25 finished, and of these 14 were Gipsy Moths; and it is frankly admitâ€" ted and declared that neither of the two retirements were in any manner due to mechanical failure. The results: 1st, ‘Gloster Grebe,‘ a high performance military aircraft with 400 H.P. Armstrongâ€"Siddeley "Jaguar" engine, flown by Flight Lieut; R. Atcherley of the British Schneider Cup Team. 2nd, "Moth" Pilot Lieut. L. G. Richardson; R.N., private owner. Incidentally this parâ€" ticular, ‘Moth‘ is nearly three years old andâ€"has flown continuously since production. 3rd, ‘Gipsyâ€"Moth‘ pilot, Capt. W. L. Hope, who won the conâ€" test in 1927 in a ‘Moth‘ and in 1928 in a ‘Gipsyâ€"Moth.‘ 4th, ‘Gipsyâ€"Moth‘ pilot, Alan S.
