There is no excuse for the persistant carelessness which is evidâ€" ent in the daily accumulation of old papers which litter our streets, and our residents are perfectly justified when they raise their voices in proâ€" test. Surely, part of the training of our young children. should be cleanliâ€" ness and neatness. Above all, a deâ€" sire to see our streets and home garâ€" dens wellâ€"kept should be inculcated inâ€" to the minds of the school children. If their home and school training inâ€" cluded this very necessary form of education Weston residents would have no fear of their lawns. being littered with papers and seraps. Let‘s see if we can‘t make a comâ€" bined effort to keep our streets clean. Several complaints have recently reached the office of sthe Times & Guide with regard to the littering of our Main streets with papers and rubâ€" bish. It appears that school children are in the habit of throwing away seraps of paper, old magazines, etc., with an absolute disregard to the inâ€" convenience which it may cause our residents. One resident on Main Street has stated that every evening‘ it is necessary to pick upâ€" papers which have been wantonly thrown on the lawns and boulevards by the chilâ€" dren returning from school. Weston Phone: 254 If it be true that allâ€"religion is faith, then perhaps playing the stock market is religion From Atlantic to Pacific today, Canadian children are celebrating Emâ€" pire Day, and as one of our local prinâ€" cipals remarked at the last meeting of the public school board, in this day of Communist and Bolshevist propaganâ€" da, well, indeed, that Canadian youth is so employed one day in the year. To celebrate Empire Day is especially a task for youth and those who have their guidance in hand. Older people take pride and glory in the Empire 'and allow their thoughts full scope and their imagination full streteh on Empire Day. To the adult mind is possible a fuller realization of the meaning of the British Empire. Esâ€" pecially since the Great War is this true. It was the adult mind that unâ€" derstood what Britons were doing for their Empire, the adult heart that suffered and bled at war‘s sacrifice, the adult soul that never quailed at‘ any demand to keep that Empire in-l tact. But it is the youth of Canada who must be imbued with the ideas and the ideals of that Empire, that they in turn may become the adults who hold it dear in the future. There is magnificent scope in song, in poem, in story of Britain, with which to fire and inspire Canada‘s boys and girls today. No nobler thoughts have been written on any theme than those inâ€" spired by Britain‘s greatness and noâ€" bility. Those two attributes cause her. to stand out before every nation. Say“ "Britain" in any corner of the globe and inspire respect. Show her flag anywhere and men will reverence it. How fitting that our youth should spend one day in expressing reverence and love for their mother land! How proud should be their teachers, their parents, to lead them in a paean for that glorious Empire on which the sun never sets, and whose deeds are writâ€" ten in white and gold on the pages of history ! The minister, in his morning serâ€" mon took as his textâ€"the 107th Psalm, verses 27 and 30, which read as folâ€" lows: "Those that go down to the sea in ships, they see the wonders of the Lord; and he brought them to their desired haven." He pointed out that three factors largely influenced the thought and feeling of the human race. The sun is a vital factor in the Jife of the human race and a body of worshippers, known as the sunâ€"worâ€" shippers, arose. . He dwelt on the upâ€" lifting effect of the mountains. He considered the sea as a third factor and suggested that life was a voyage and spoke of the uncertainty felt and the storms encountered when one traâ€" vels on a ship. The uncertainty and storms soon pass away and the voyaâ€" ger experiences great joy when he arâ€" rives safely in the harbour. _ Mr. Forbes will preach at both ser-' vices in Westminster Church next! Sunday, Paul‘s message to Titus being| the morning subject and in the vC /0 ning, God‘s eternal message as repreâ€" & sented in the fortieth chapter of fl Isaigh, \0o Love your neighhor; yet don‘t pull down your hedge. _ Bible School will be held at 3 o‘clock in the afternoon. In introducing the subject he spoke of the seven years that intervened between the time God had met Elijah on Mount Horib and the taking of Elijah away. Elijah during these years had devoted himâ€" self to the consolidation of the kingâ€" dom of God in Israel. He had estabâ€" lished three different schools for students and in the training of their young minds he had multiplied his usefulness in the great work in which he was engaged. He concluded by describing a touching incident conâ€" nected with the ascension. Miss Dowse sang a solo at both the morning and evening services. The choir was augmented by several new members and led the service of praise most pleasingly. Central United â€"Church. The pastor, Rev. EMPIRE DAY THE WESTON TIMES & GUIDE Westminster and Central United Churches have through their official Boards arranged for union services during July and. August.. The serâ€" vices are to be in Central Church in July and in Westminster in August. Westminster Sunday School continâ€" ues in the afternoon for a few more weeks and special interest is now.cenâ€" tering around the summer_ camps which are being planned for under most capable christian leadership. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me;" and as we go about our daily work we shall find that calm, trustful thinking unfolds to us newer and greater opportunities for doing good, and for receiving greater blessings. Those with whom we come in contact will feel the quiet assurance and confidence, and may themselves manifest less haste, rush, and impatience. Truly as we replace hurried thinking and. acting with quietness in thought and deed, we shall see better and finer results in our daily work, _ Let us seek quiet communion with God. Let us remember Paul‘s words, Five hundred Bishops, representing every Eastern Orthodox Church in the world, will assemble early next year at Mount Athos, famous for its monaâ€" steries since the dawn of the Christian era. . This international ecclesiastical conclave will meet under the Presiâ€" dency of the Ecumenical Patriarch Basil II of Constantinople. Bishop Stephane of Sofia declares it will be the most important Church congress since the famous Council of Nicea 1,000 years ago. Others describe it as the launching of the greatest battle by the Eastern Churches against the Church of Rome since the fall of the Holy Roman Empire. It will give special long term renewable lease. How frequently toâ€"day we hear deâ€" cried the restlessness and haste preâ€" dominant in the world! In daily purâ€" suits the objective seems to be to "get done" or to "get somewhere," rather than to enjoy each and every step which brings about the fulfillment of the desired end. The fruits of haste are usually friction and discord, for through haste little is harmoniously accomplished, When we seem pressed on all sides by numerous demands and exacting duties, let us quietly _ and sincerely seek the stillness of God‘s presence. We shall then be able to perform in an orderly and harmonious manner that which hitherto seemed impossible and our quietness and conâ€" fid%nce will "bless the sower and the seed."
