A. Sullivan Wins Willie Park Trophy at Weston Golf and Country Club Ideal weather conditions marked the Weston Golf and Country Club tournaâ€" ment for the Willie Park trophy, playâ€" ed on Saturday last. J. A. Sullivan, of the Rosedale Club, came through a field of one hundred and twenty amateur golfers, winning from J. R. Curry, Scarboro. Starting off, Sullivan played the first three holes in 5‘s, but realized the valâ€" ue of the advice he had received when, his ball dropped three feet from the flag on the fourth green of a 2, leayâ€" ing him one stroke over 4‘s. . With an 8 and a 6 before he reached the team, Sullivan was out in 48 strokes. Flayâ€" ing over the easier half of the course, he bagged birdies on the sixteenth and seventeenth holes with 37 strokes. Weston is Severe Test The results of the day‘s play revealâ€" ed some interesting . features to. the Weston course. . The contest was the first match over it since it was opened four years ago. The scores were high. It was the first competition in several seasons on local courses in which golfâ€" ers of standing failed to break 80. The explanation of the scoring lies in the work of the club‘s architect, .after whom the trophy was named.. He gave the club distances and took advantage ‘of the rolling character of the ground when: he laid the course out; A 39 on the first half for a par of 36 provâ€" ed to be excellent golf. None of the field was able to play the first three holes in par. R C. _M. Jones, Searboro, and J. H. Barfoot, Weston, negotiated the first half in 39 strokes. They were the only entrants to doâ€"so, but fell coming in, Jones taking 49 strokes and Barfoot a 44 for the last half. Three of the entrants broke 40 on the last half. They were Sullivan, Curry and Skaith, Plays Bootless Alex. Carrick, brother of the chamâ€" pion, and _C. Pascoe, Bayview, were among the prize winners. Carrick was a post entry, and went out with a borâ€" rowed pair of shoes. He won the net prize for the first nine holes, taking 42 strokes and playing on a handicap of 14. He found it impossible to wear the shoes, discarding them on the fifâ€" teenth tee and playing on.bootless. The lad provided a humorous feature to the competition. Pascoe had a net 35 for the last half. With the exception of W. J. Thompson, the prize winners were the younger players of the tour, nament. They were presented by Preâ€" sident George Donovan, who explainâ€" ed the purpose of the club in providâ€" ing amateur golf with a fall competiâ€" tion. J. H. Riddel, president of Scarâ€" boro, extended the thanks of the field to the Weston Club. ‘Local Improvement Notice Take notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Weston, in pursuance of Section 9 of "The Loâ€" cal Improvement Act," as amended, inâ€" tends to construct the undermentioned works on the following streets, beâ€" tween the points mentioned, as local improvements, and intends to specialâ€" ly assess a part of the cost upon the land abutting directly on the work: .
