itf , }!"ExcmENI LAGROSSE / 6t ST. sIMons | n _ PAE At last the ball travelled to the Wesâ€" l ton net only to have Toad intercept | and the ball travelled down fast. Griffith in centre took the pass, made a fake to pass on to Coulter, but turnâ€" ed and shot a beauty for Weston‘s 4th goal. Weston still pushed, and Bob taking a pass back of the net, roundâ€" ed the corner and placed the ball inâ€" side for No. 5 goal. St. Simons seâ€" cured to lose their pass, and Weston were pressing when the whistle blew. | Fourth Period Weston got the draw and walked right into the goal. Eddie took a | nice pass, worked into position, and gave the ball to Earle who was in front of the nete. Earle just bounced the ball in and Coutie was surprised.i On the face off Weston lost the bZlHi but the defence passed it out to Silk when St. Simons made a bad pass. Silk like an arrow dashed for the goal and shot a hard straigth one that made it 7 for Weston. . Weston got the draw but lost the ball when close in. Toad relieved and Eddie gave Griffith a good. pass. Coutie was off for 5 minutes and Bob climbed the back of the net but missâ€" ed the goal. Wilson cleared slowly and the goal was in danger for a minute, Toad relieved and H. Coutâ€" tie gave Griffith a pass which he shot straight and true for goal No. 2. St. Simons missed the open net and the round to the side when Wilson came out to save. Eddie carried the ball down and after a couple of passes got the ball and shot the ‘third goal for Weston. St. Simons still hurry on, and were buzzing around but could not score. Weston were right on top in every play, going straight in, and shooting hard and fast. 3rd Period Abie had a chance to score at the start of period but was checked. Then Conny tried but failed, St. Simons lost a real chance when they only had Wilson to beat Toad saved on the rebound shot when they were right in. Silk made a great burst of speed and rushed in but was tumbled. Bob had a chance but his check was right on him. St. Simons were in with the odd man but shot wild. Weston were through and â€" St. Simons were Iucky to keep them from scoring. Everyâ€" one was down but could not score. Griffith who was used for the first time fitted into the play well. _ St. Simons made a real try but could not pass Toad or Hap. They were held in check. Bob made a real play and four of the team were on him before he lost the ball. Wilson was called®upon to make a real stop, and Conny had a good chance when right in but he made an extra pass and lost the chance a second time. Eddie grabbed a nice one, and well out shot hard and true for the first goal. It was a nice efâ€" fort. Both teams played the same style of game. Thus it was a match of speed endurance and skill. St. Simons were réputed to have the edge as they are the younger team. Weston however showed that they have the endurance and the youth. Kit Griffith broke inâ€" to the game for the first time and fitâ€" ted in in beautiful style. Spencer, Griffith and~ Wilson, all last years juniors, are certainly making the Wesâ€" ton team stronger than ever. These three boys are the surprise of the seaâ€" son. . Ken Kingdon and Nels Reily were unable to start on account of inâ€" juries from the previous game. Toad Farr played a wonderful game on Satâ€" urday. He did not rush up the field once during the whole game but kept his defence placed and then usually intercepted the pass or the shot when every man was covered.. It was the most masterly defence that has been seen on the Weston field. St. Simons lost a few good chances, but they were generally backed right out of danger. The home played nice comâ€" bination and worked the ball well into the danger zone.. They did not reâ€" ceiveâ€" the usual help from the defence but showed that they could score just as well by their own efforts. Gorâ€" don Coulter was out on the home and played a good game. The game by periods: 1st Period _ Weston took the draw and made the attack but were held out:. St. Simons took the ball down with speed but found that the Weston defence was holding them tight. Wilson came out and relieved nicely. Eddie carried the ball in but the. shot was blocked. Walker was called upon to stop a hot one from close in, when the Saints carried the ball inside of the Weston defence. Hap relieved and sonny Goldâ€" ine was in for a good shot. He howâ€" ever made a pass tqo Bob and the opportunity was .gone. Harold got the ball and gave Bob a nice pass, but he could not get away though he made a nice try before he lost the bail. St. â€"Simons carried~it, in but Toad Farr intercepted. Eddie missed a nice chance by a little over anxiety. There was some nice team work and passing by the Weston team. St, _ There was not a large crowd out to see the Westonâ€"St. Simons game on Saturday as there should have been. It was a perfect day, and two good teams gave an <exhibition of the naâ€" tional game that was well worth seeâ€" ing. Each gave all â€" they had and showed a greak skill in the art of laâ€" erosse. Weston seniors certainly playâ€" ed a strong defence game that did not give the fast home of St. Simons any libertics. _ They carried the bail right into the St. Simons goal, and those that did score never gave Coutie a chance to stop them. It was carcâ€" fully well planned defence and attack that won the game. St. Simons did not stop but were trying all afterâ€" noon. Weston Team Plays Careful, Heady Game Holding Fast St. Simon‘s Scoreless E TWO Second Period W. Hales, of the Kodaks, also skipâ€" ped a rink against A. M. Warren, of North Toronto, at this 9 a.m. draw and made a good showing in the tourâ€" nament. Bayliss, of the Kodaks, lost out in the first round of the Walker House trophy to George Bain, of Howard Park, won in the first round of the T. Eaton trophy against Rev. Vipond, Streetsville, 16â€"11. also in the second round against Dr. King, Milton, 11â€"8, and in the third round defeated W. Dundas, of Canadas, 13â€"12, but lost out by one shot in the fourth round to Dr. Foster, of Galt. a final win by a small margin of two points. Prof. Wade as lead, George Walker second, and W. Banks playing third supported W. J. Inch in the splenâ€" did play made throughout the compeâ€" tition. Kodak Beat High Park Three rinks from High Park visited Kodak on Monday evening, losing by 8 shots. Scores:â€" Kodak High Park 1, 5. Currie J. Bayliss. . At the oneâ€"day tournament held by, the Toronto Canoe Club at Dowling Ave. green, on Saturday, July. 18th, Weston bowlers were represented by W. J. Inch and his bunch of stalwarts, playing at 10.30 a.m. against Dr. Deâ€" war, of Oakwood, winning out in the first round by a score of 11â€"3; in the second round 15â€"7, but failed to make In the Walker House trophy, Weston rink, skipped by W. A. McEwen, went down to defeat in the first round to H. E. Henderson, of High Park, with a score of 16â€"13, also lost in the first round of the T. Eaton trophy to W. Dundas, of the Canadas. In the first round of the consolation, _ Williams Shoe Cup, Weston rink, skipped by W. A. McEwen, won by default, but lost out in the second round to Rev. K. Vipond, of Streetsville. & With twentyâ€"nine rinks competing, the annual twoâ€"day tournament openâ€" ed at Brampton on Wednesday last. It is expected members from visiting rinks, to the number of 160, will be present and add zest to the game. It is also hoped Sir Henry will be a guest of the evening, and make the presenâ€" tation to the winning team. The cup is to be held by the winâ€" ning rink for the ensuing year, and will become the property of the club winning it the largest number of times in the ensuing ten years. Weston green is in excellent condiâ€" tion, and a most enjoyable time is anâ€" ticipated this Wednesday night. St. Simon Juveniles came out to Weston on Monday night, playing a twilight game, which, in spite of the oneâ€"sided score of 8â€"3, in favor of the locals, was a splendid exhibition of good, clean lacrosse. St. Simon‘s came out with but eight men on their team, and the Weston boys showed up their good sportsmanship by meeting them on their own grounds and playing an eightâ€"man team. An event of interest in local lawn bowling circles is the tournament arâ€" ranged for Wednesday evening of this week, when the cup donated by Sir Henry Drayton will be the outstanding feature of the competition.
