§ The Board â€"of Education.presented _ their estimates for the coming year, â€" which staggered the members of the ;‘»if_"council. The mayorâ€"and council have. â€" ‘all year been making a special effort â€"â€" to do all they can towards decreasing _ the mill rate and have had great hopes. ) But at the presentation of these esâ€" % timates they were completely staggered. i\ The Board of Education calledfor $25,â€" 000 for Public School purposes and â€"â€" $85,000 for High School purposes, makâ€" W img a total of $60,000. Last year‘s â€" estimates were for Public School purâ€" ‘ poses, $23,760, and .for High School [ purposes, $18,000. Owing to the unâ€" $ ‘eertainty as to whether this was the ‘ total estimate that was required to be [ maised, or as to whether this was Wesâ€" â€"â€" ton‘s share taken with county grant, | k was decided to leave this matter unâ€" ‘ til they, met the Finance Committee of â€" the Board. Weston Council Finance F*Committee were instructed. to meet 2 with theâ€" ‘Finance Committee of the ‘â€" Board of Education and go into the de-i |â€" tails and return the report at the next i meeting. Messrs. Farr and Cross reâ€" _ presenting the Weston Fair Board zmd‘ â€" backed uptby a very strong letter from Wothe secretary, Mtr. °L. Elliott, drew :11’-'1 ‘â€" tention of the council to the fact that: ‘\ the speeding automobiles and motorâ€" â€" eycles had completely ruined the lr:’l('ki P at the Fair Gtounds. So much, damâ€" M age has b‘:%s'fl done, that the stone !'uunâ€"| _ dation offthe track has worked up and ‘ lam horse valued at three thousâ€" 3. z\y((fl:;l-lirs last week. â€" Conditions ;1\'0! ‘ go bad that the entries refuse to race) & ,!:‘Lt the fair on this track unless it is j‘repaired. The delegation and letter| i asked of the council to give the board| U the, assurance that if / they put the truck‘ _ in good" condition they would see that] â€" the speeding motors and motorcycles| ‘â€" would be kept off the track and {hnsi f”ihe destruction prevented. It will be| i) necessary to put about a quarter of a P mile of clay up the whole side and, ‘‘ around one turn to put the track 1);1('1\‘ :! in the proper comdition. . The council | | assured the deputation that they would | Wdo all in their power to prevent firrâ€" [ the damage to the track, that gates will | _ be erected at the one end and signs | posted prohibiting the use of this track| | by autos and motorcycles, | e TOWN GCOUNGHL HOLD REEULAR MEFTNG Word was received from Mr. Irwin regarding Weston assurance for the reâ€" vision of the voters‘ list for the past election. .‘This amount is $154.56. Preâ€" viously this amount was paid by the government, but on this list the governâ€" ment has assessed the various municiâ€" palities for their share. Some of the municipalities have paid their debt. The City of Toronto is fighting it. Weston will pay their share. Also the suggesâ€" tion was made from him as regards the printing of the voters‘ list, ‘That in filture all new.subdivisions be started on ‘a new page, & Also debentures assigned for the pavement and the old sewerage system on MeDonald Ave. were passed. .§ion"th‘u.t the affair should be thoroughâ€" ly looked after, and a committee was chosen by the council of Mayor Flynn, Deputy Reeve Totten and Councillor Woebster to meet a committee of three members of the Lacross Club to. arâ€" rang for a bangiuet to be givien to the Oxfordâ€"Cambridge _ teari on Wednesâ€" (ay evening, the cost not to exceed one hundred dollars. It was suggested that ‘both teams be invited as guests and that a~limited number of tickets at éost price, be sold to the citizens of Weston. In this way a real social evenâ€" ing and banguwet can be tendered to the teams and those desiring~ to attend can do so. The: committee in charge will work out the details and make full arrangements for this event. The solicitor, Mr. Howard Gray, preâ€" sented nine byâ€"laws to be read. and passed, desling with the raising‘of three thousand dollars for the Liquid Chlorâ€" ine plant, and the appointing of a clerk, the local improvement for water mains, eurb and gutter, and boulevard. The council were unable to read all these at the time, so a special meeting will Have to be called for the passing of them. ‘In regards the appointing of the clerk, this byâ€"law was passed and Mr. H. JX Musson ‘was appointed 3s clerk, ‘official dating from Saturday, Aug. LIth, at a salary of two tlwusund} a year . ./ | â€" A letter was reccived from Mr. Smith &5 regards the proposed Oxfordâ€"Camâ€" bridge lacrosse tour. As Weston Laâ€" erosse Club are entertaining this team from Wednesday until Saturday mornâ€" ing, they thought that it would be fitâ€" ting that the town should tender a forr’rjal‘b;tnquot on Wednesday evening to the lacrosse teams. [Banquets and dances and the use of the Weston Golf course has already been arranged for on Thursday and Friday, and the local elub will motor the boys to Brampton on Saturday for the game there.. It ‘was explained that the Weston Laâ€" erosse Club have undertaken the enâ€" tertainment at a big cost to the club, and they felt that it would be but fitâ€" tmg for the town to follow suit ‘as other, towns have done in undertaking to entertainm this historie Athletic Asâ€" Bociation. . It was decided after ‘discusâ€" f Mir Gibson, on behalf of the C:C.M., wrote to the councily drawing attention to the condition of the road on Eagle Ave. They asked that the council make some effort to have this road paved ‘or put into good condition before the wet ‘weather set in. In discussion.of the matter, the council felt that someâ€" thing should be done to put this road in the very best of repair. IB wasâ€" pointâ€" ed out that many large holes made the road very rough and that/ the water lying in these holes during the bad weather made it almost impassable. The council instructed‘ the roads and sideâ€" walks committee to have the road gradâ€" ed ‘and the holes filled and provision made for the running off of the surface water. This will be taken im hand at once, and thus the road requests will be met. 5 ANt the regular meeting of the Wesâ€" ton council held on Monday evening with the mayor in the chair, much imâ€" portant business was brought before the ‘bodv. & After the, reading and adopting of the minutes of the last meeting, the eorrespondence, which was very heavy, was received. Boys and â€" Girls School Shoes, | The question of dumping ashes con taining nails and other articles that are so detrimental to horses feet and awboâ€" mobile tires were thoroughly investigaâ€" ted. The council will hold a special meetâ€" ing in order to deal with the plans and deputations received on Monday. ‘The condition of the lavatories at the town hall was thoroughly gone inâ€" to, and their disgraceful filth was strongly emphasized. â€" Instructions will be given that these be properly lookâ€" ed after daily. |. The question â€" of the compensation | board being complied with and the [town employees entered was gone into ‘and the necessary transfers will be ‘ made immediately. \ _ The. question of straightening John |Street and the removal of the poles and. | the cut actoss in front of Pr. Haddow‘s 'house, corner of John and Elm Streets, ‘was'dis('usscd. It was decided that the ‘ri)ud was ndrrow enough and that it |could not be angled, but would be raisâ€" ed in the straight line and a proper cescent made on this corner.. ‘This will | give the oad a full width. The poles ‘E’ill also be removed. ‘Theâ€" town enâ€" deavored to sell Mr. Haddow the proâ€" perty in front, but no termsâ€"could be reached and thus the sidewalk will conâ€" tinue in a straight line. The mayor inâ€" formed the council that Mr. James had <])romise(} him definitely that the work on Main‘ Street would be started next week ‘and will be completed within 83 weeks from the start. Councillor Monkman and the counâ€" cillors drew the attention of the counâ€" cil to the fact that proper detour signs and all arrangements plainly put up while the work is being carried on. Certain roads will be used for detours and some will be given attention and fixed up before the heavy traffic is turmed onto them. The holdâ€"up has been caused by the vrailway company, and there is no reaâ€" son why the ties and steel will not be on hand and work being commenced on Monday. [ This is absolutely the date that work will be actually comâ€" menced. f Geners! Hardware Mr. Harry Cousins, Sr., asked some question _re the band instruments of the town. But there is, according to the answers, expectations of the town band\ being reâ€"organized and thus the instruments being used again. The Home of Good Shoes WESTON BUILDERS‘ SUPPLIES.
