After a child has saved another dollar to make an additional deposit, he or she will have a better appreâ€" ciation of just what a dollar stands for. and how much work and selfâ€"denialit represents, Habits are acquired early in life. Children, who are taught the value of money and the habit of saving, grow up into good business men and capable women. MIMICO BRANCH LNES GOA 6O DOUGLAS DAVIDSON JAMES SMALL LOUIS J. WEST, EERAIIIARAAAACes ts (All sizes) Chairman of Commission FEER, Town Clerk Heating Coke Manager. A number of small boys recently enâ€" tered a‘field on Albert Avenue that is being cultivated by Mr. Burgess of Cavell Avenue, Mimico, and destroyed a large number of squash which were nearly ready for use. There was no attempt made to take any of the vegeâ€" table away, it was merely a case of heedless destruction of other people‘s property. It is most annoying, to say the least, after spending a whole sumâ€" mer of labor, to have â€"the produce wantonly destroyed. Parents should warn their children against such imâ€" prudent actions, which are bound to cause hard feclings in the community. The, picnic held by Christ Church at High Park last Saturday proved most enjoyable. The light rain which fell early in the evening drove the picnickers home a little sooner than they had anticipated, but apart froni that everything went off splendidly. The races, for which excellent prizes were awarded, were keenly contested. The Punch and Judy Show and Venâ€" triloquist entertainment ; provided by Mr. Robert Clarke met with hearty applause. Preparations are being made for a memorial service in Christ Church, Mimico. No definite plans as to the service have been arranged as yet, but it is to be held on Sunday, September 13th. Several of the Mimico men who fell overseas were members of Christ Church, and it is felt by the congregaâ€" tion that a service for the unreturning heroes of the town is only fitting. The enthusiasm of the younger boys over lacrosse, and their constant pracâ€" tising at the lacrosse grounds, stop 15, proves how urgently a park is needed by the town. If the town does not acquire the property immediately, Mimico will be left without a central playground and athletic field, It is Miss Ella Gair has gone to Detroit to bringâ€"home her mother, Mrs. W. Gair of Cavell St., who has been visitâ€" ing friends in that city. Mr. E. Eland has returned from a short visit to Brampton. At a recent meeting of the Sir E. €arson L\Q. L 2515, Bro. C. King and Bro. W. H. Banfield were presentâ€" ed with life membership certificates and Bro. Brandon was presented with a cut glass and carving set by his fellow members on the occasion of his iip to the people of Mimico to decide whether the town shall have a park or not. Mimico Lacrosse Club to Meet The Mimico and New Toronto Laâ€" .crosse Club will hold a meeting in H&rrison Hall this evening to discuss the action of the 0. A. L. A. in giving the much discussed game to Weston. Lacrosse in Mimico has received a seâ€" vere setback by the recent decision, as the residents of Mimico and New Toâ€" ronto see no reason why Manager Brown‘s request to have the game played off on neutral grounds could not have been complied with. Weston has made for itself an unenviable reâ€" putation. It is quite possible that Mimico, Woodbridge and Brampton may ask for Weston‘s withdrawal from the league. Owing to the building of an addiâ€" tion to the Mimico Publicâ€"School it was found impossible to have the old section ready for Tuesday, as was inâ€" tended, so the opening will be postâ€" poned until next Monday, Sept. 8th. The members of the Mimico Housing Commission are Douglas Davidson, James Small and Louis J. West, chairâ€" man. Applications for loans or inforâ€" mation may be sent to either of the above named gentlemen or to Mr. J. A. Telfer, Clerk of the Town of Mimiâ€" Applications for loans to build houses under the Ontario Housing Act are coming in very satisfactorily and the Mimico Housing Commission is much pleased with the promptness with which Mr. J. A. Ellis, director of the Bureau of Municipal Affairs, has handled applications from the Town of Mimico. The Commissioners are encouraging the building of houses in different sections of the town to suit the individual tastes of the builders and in this way a numâ€" ber of different plans can be developâ€" ed that will be satisfactory to the diâ€" rector and a credit to the town. That for the purpose aforesaid there shall be borrowed on the credit of the Corporation at large the sum of twentyâ€"four thousand five hundred dollars ($24500.00) ‘and debentures shall be issued therefor in sums of not less than $100.00 each, bearing interest at the rate of five and oneâ€" half per centum per annum, and havâ€" ing coupons attached thereto for the payment of the interest. 2. The debentures shall all bear the same rate and shall be issued within two years after the day on which this Byâ€"law is passed, and may bear any date within such two years and shall be payable in thirty annual installâ€" ments during the thirty years next afâ€" ter the time when the same are isâ€" sued, and the respective amounts of And whereas it is estimated that the amount required for the purposes aforesaid is the sum of $24500.00; Whereas this Council deems it exâ€" pedient to acquire land for, and to esâ€" tablish and lay out a public park in the Town of Mimico; A Byâ€"law to provide for the borrowâ€" ing of $24500.00 upon debentures to pay for acquiring land for, and estabâ€" lishing, and laying out a public park in the Town of Mimico. Greater efforts are being put forth to secure better roads throughout the town. This is a slow process, but will eventually come. The growth has been so rapid during the past few years that it has been impossible to keep up with the demand. Our counâ€" cil, however, are doing all that they can with the money at their disposal. The present plan to build the main roads and thus connect up with the highway. This will be a decided adâ€" vantage to the Mimico Post Office and the older part of the town. Every assistance and coâ€"operation is now available to those who are desirâ€" ous of building in Mimico. By dint of hard work plans have been comâ€" pleted and details arranged. It is now up to the individual to get in touch with the Building Commission. Those who know state that building material is not likely to take a drop.. Everyâ€" thing is tending the other way. Thus this is the time that you should build and not wait.. It is also an excellent opportunity for those who want to make a start and own their own homes. Paying rent is always a tie. It is paying out all the time and getâ€" ting no real+value at the end of the year except the house to live in. Thus by the plans of the commission you can secure your own home, built as you please, and the loan at a low rate.
