Radium and the X-ray are both utilized in the second episode of "The Tiger's Trail," the new Pathe Serial, starring Ruth Roland, which will be shown at the Maple Leaf Theatre Wednesday and Thursday of each week. Miss Roland, as Belle Boyd, the heroine of the Serial and George Larkin as Jack Randall, a young mining engineer, are in search of a certain Tiger Idol which has a very wonderful power in that its eyes glow when the little image comes near Radium. They are convinced that "Grim" Gordon, Belle’s guardian, has secreted the Idol k, in some hidden niche in the walls of the house. So they secure a, phial of Radium and by passing this along the walls of each room finally locate the Idol as the Radium' causes its eyes to glow and shine right through the walls of the room. The dangerous properties of Radium are recognized by all scien- tists and physicians who handle this valuable mineral. A great many phy- sicians have lost their lives through Radium burns and the substance is always kept in special lead containers. In another episode of "The Tiger's Trail" Gordon, who experiments con- siderably with Radium, is shown in a specially constructed Laboratory whose walls and furniture are all of stone. In projecting Radium Rays any inflammable substance such as wood would burst into flame if the rays touched it so the stone furniture enables Gordon to conduct his ex- periments with no element of danger by fire.
