He could have remained at home and secured his discharge, but he was not that stamp of a Canadian. He had done well; he was determined to do more, hnd went back as soon as he was able. Soon again in action he distinguished himself to such an extent that he was awarded the military cross, but the price he paid was exceedingly high. He was wounded in the face, lost the sight of one eye, and suffered so frightfully that operation after operâ€" ation was necessary to save his life. In ispite of it all he was anxious to stillâ€"carry on as his strength returned, but naturally he longed to see his mother, whose health was unsatisfacâ€" tory. BEUY VICEORY BONDS GET THIS sease that has overspread the counâ€" tty. His worsk was aone, and he was callea to his blessed ang eternal reâ€" ward. The funeralâ€"took place on sunâ€" day ilast. The feeling or the people of Port Credit and of the surrounding neighborhoou, as well as of Ais miliâ€" tary companions, was shown by the large concourse of sorrowing citizens which attended the obsequies. The serâ€" vice was conducted by Rev. Captain G. P. Duncan, the comrade in arms, pastor and friend of the deceased. So great was the crowd that Captain Dunâ€" can conducted the service from the verandah of the home and very imâ€" pressive was the scene as the group of officers and youthful veterans, who were the pallâ€"bearers, surrounded by the crowd, which reached far across the roadway, listened in silence with bared heads to the chaplain‘s mesâ€" sage. To the solemn strains of the band the funeral proceeded along the peaceful country road to Dixie cemeâ€" tery, where the interment took place. The pallâ€"bearers were Lt. Rodney Frager, Lieut. Vipond, Lieut. Howard Leeming, Lieut. Blake Farrel, Lieut. James Sehiller and Lieut. W. S. Dunâ€" can, M.C. Men from Exhibition Camp formed the firing party, and the body was carried on a gun carriage to the cemetery. As the solemn procession neared the grave the people reverentily bared their heads as the band played. the dead march. The service of comâ€" mitment was said by the Rev. Captain Duncan, the usual volleys were fired, the "Last Post" sounded, and all that is mortal of Douglas Gray was conâ€" signed to mother earth. ‘As they left the grave side, friends and relatives united in a sincere amen as the strains of "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" were sweetly played by the military band.
