Frank Vipond and his son, Lieut. Vipond, are both home on leave. Lt. Vipond won his comâ€" mission in the Royal North Lancaâ€" shire Regiment, and after eight days‘ fighting on the Somme was the only officer left in his battalion. Previâ€" ous to enlisting, Captain Vipond was secretary to the Bishop and resided in Weston. He was rectorâ€" at St. George‘s, Islington, for a time. He speaks very highly of the bravery unâ€" der fire of all Canadian regiments, the 58th Battalion in one engagement winâ€" ning four Military Crosses. wWESTON SOLDIER RETURNS â€"14 MONTHS ACTIVE SERVICE Lance Corporal E. Ewing, Main St. North, arrived home ~late Sunday night after fourteen months of acâ€" tive service at the front. He enlistâ€" ed and went overseas with the 127th Batalion. ~Spending a few months of camp life in England, he then crossed toâ€"France, but his health broke down and he was invalided.to England; and from there returned home. The famâ€" ily had decorated the home inside and out with bunting and the flags of the allies h honor of his réturn. Monday evening several old friends called to offer him their appreciation of, serâ€" vices rendered his country and cordialâ€" ly welcome him in their midst again. He told many interesting incidents of camp life in England and at the front and a pleasant time was enjoyed reâ€" ewing old times and acquaintances.
