If THISTLETOWN BAPTIST CHURCH Congratulations =Continued Success A WORD FROM THE PASTOR: It is with great joy and profound gratitude to God that we dedicate our new church home and open its doors for the worship and service of God and the preaching of the gospel. "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." The history and building of the new Thistletown Baptist Church is a modern day miracle demonstrating the goodness and power of God. The work began in the Lcaumbnde Heights Public School in September of 1960. My wife and I accepted the challenge of this growing area and without any human resources to lean on we felt sure that God had some great things in store. There were many trials and tribulations in the early months but faith triumphed over all and the small but courageous group of believers launched out and purchased our $25,000.00 acre‘site in June of 1961. With the help of the Fellowship we were able to obtain a portable building which we entered in July, 1961. The work grew slowly but steadily ard believers were added to the church on profession of their faith. In August of 1962 Mr. Miles Cook, then Treasurer of the Faith Baptist Church in Toronto, visited our church and presented us with a cheque for $20,000.00. This wonderful gift completely paid the balance owing on the land and made possible the early construction of the building which we dedicate at this time. Knowing that God was leading us on, a Building Committee was elected which began immediately to prepare plans for a permanent building. In April 1963 construction was begun on the building and continued through the year without interruption through the blessing of God on our Church Bond sales.â€" In December, 1963, the basement quarters were opened for services and again there has been an increase in the services. In January the church voted to proceed with the completion of the sanctuary. In March a contractor was engaged and the work has been brought to completion, so that we are now able to enjoy the completed building and dedicate its facilities to the glory of God. As Pastor of the church I am deeply grateful for the kind and encouraging words which many have spoken regarding the unusual development of our church. However, I must ascribe all glory to God for it has been only with His help and blessing that we have been enabled to ecme to this day. I wish to express my thanks also to the members of our church who have been strong in faith giving glory to God. Without a people of faith and courage little could be accomplished. We must also thank our Building Committee which gave many hours to the oversight of the building proâ€" gram. Mention should also be made of the generous help of Newtonbrook Baptist Church on the down payment for our land and also to the Toronto Association. Several other churches and individuals assisted greatly and meant the difference between defeat and victory especially in the early days. Thistletown Baptist Church is a Home Mission of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada. The Fellowship bas helped the work with a loan for the Portable building, a Minute Man Loan and with the regular monthly grant. And so, having witnessed the mighty hand of God until this day we press forward to even greater things in the days ahead. We covet your prayers for God‘s continued grace and blessings.
