This week is the final week of the North York Summer Day Camp Programme and another very successful year has been added to the history of this wellâ€" organized activity. Few people in North York realize just what a worderful idea this day camp has been. I remember vividly my own childhood in downtown Toronto where the word camp was out of the question for the average middleâ€"income family. Too poor to afford the private camps and too rich to be put on the Star Fresh Air Fund wist 1 spent many boring summers constantly getting in my mut. er‘s way and trying to fiaq something to do. Today my children attend day camp and aside from having something to du. they meet new friends, learn « activities to keep them busy rain or shine plus a host of sungs that they sing and rememâ€" ber all vear round. Forget: Services are well attended even when there are so many people away on holidays. Some may wonder why the evening service is carried on when many of the other churches have only a morning service. It is very simple. Just ask those who go to the midweek â€" Communion services or those who go to the evening service. They will tell you that they receive strength and support at these services. We need exercise to keep our bodies in trim. We need food to nourish us each day. We need spiritual inspiration to grow in grace and holiness. You get these when you attend church services regularly. ions and a deep acceptanc responsibility _ on _ their Some others have not as yet in their notices for the le It was a fine piece of work to note that the weeds on the banks, at the side of the church have been all cleared off and that efforts are being made to repair the lawn. This improves the property and makes the church inviting. The wardens are to be consratulated on the way in which they are improvâ€" ing the grounds. The laymen of the church are meeting next month for a two day session at the Guild of the all Arts with Rev. Jack Cloush as the leader. This is an opportâ€" unity for spiritual strengthening. Bees Win 17â€"11 In Big Slugfest An explanatory word or two about Filibusters might be in order this week. I was asked a few days ago to give my descripâ€" tion of "filibuster" and my conâ€" clusiqn was that a Filibuster is an organized effort in Parlia ment to delay a decision that would not be favourable to ones particular point of view. The filibuster that took place in the recent interim supply deâ€" bate can not claim the virtue of being carried on in the pubâ€" lic interest. In the first place the legislation that was being filibustered was an â€" ordinary routine piece of business that is usually approved by the House St. Philip‘s Braves edged St. Philip‘s Mets 10â€"7 in a close game featured by the fine deâ€" fensive play of the Braves. By no stretch of the imagination can it be said that it is now in the public interest to force the Government to iis knees, by cutting off its monthâ€" ly money needs, and thus force the country into an election. This is like tripping a man ind then innocently asking him why he fell on his face. weeks filibuster was to delay a decision, not on interim supply, but on the Flag issue. This is a perverted and dishonest use of that technique and one that brought editorial scorn on those who were using it. The abusement of Parliazient by the frivolous and devious use of the tactics of filibuster does not speak well for th> motives of those that employed this deâ€" vice. It is general public knowledgc that the real reason for last If there are those in Parliaâ€" ment who feel it is not in the public interest to make a decisâ€" ion on the Flag at this time, then that is the issue they should attempt to postpone a decision on.
