Why are they waiting for a January hearing when in January it will be too late? Why did they change their oriâ€" ginal date of December 19th to January 18th? interested in hearing . and printing the truth about the Catholic Bishops of Canada and their attitude toward the If my husband, who is only a packinghouse worker, could get an appointment for Noâ€" vember, could they not have obtained an earlier one also? They can drive around in plush cars and have their rings Hn’d. by adoring Cathâ€" elics whe think, who really believe as they have been taught to bélieve, that these men cwho claim fo represent God are "little gods" themâ€" selves. Christ said the church was full of hypocrites! I ‘accuse Archbishop Pocock of being equal to them in his silence. Last year | wrote to him telling him the position of one political party regardâ€" ing abortion and pointing oyt to him that every vote given to that party was a vote for legalized abortion in Canads and a vote against the beliefs of the Catholic Church. 1 also pointed out to him that many Catholics were unaware . of that party‘s stand. Did he say anything to the churches or pass the information along to Catholic voters? You know he didn‘t. HMe sent me a one senâ€" tence letter thanking me Yor my letter and that was all. Apparently the church does not interfere with matters of state, but when the state acâ€" cepts murder shouldn‘t we urder of â€"unborn children _ By their silence and lack Another strong objection to state lotteries is the implicit recognition that gambling is to be recognized as a socially acceptable practise. But let us hope that this low form of revenue raising never rears its ugly head in Ontario. cCHV,S Many other churches have appeared before the Commitâ€" tee in Ottawa and whether for or against abortion they at least _ made.. their.positians known and fought for what they believe in. As far as | know Bishop .Marocco .is. .the only one who has spoken out against it. God bless him . . . Catholics have been taught that abortion is murder. and against _ the _ commandment "Thou shalt not kill." But the leaders of Catholics who agree that life begins at conception have condoned the legalizing of murder by their complete silence. After Christmas, when it is too late, they will appear in Ottawa hollering "This is wrong." I say that the bishops approve of legalizing aborâ€" tion, 1 say that can be their only reason for not becoming involved before it is too late. IF CHRIST CAME BACK TO EARTH TODAY WOULD HE APPROVE OF ABORTION? Obviousty they don‘t care about His laws anymore. Give me â€"the humble priest who works in the slums of a city and who believes what is wrong is worth fighting for. THE, CHURCH CAN KEEP ITS BISHOPS! They are more concerned in their pomp and comfort then inâ€"the lives of innocent babies who will newâ€" er be givem a chance at life. Is Father Gregory Baum in terested ‘in abortion? Sincerely, (Mrs.) Ehsto Mackett, Snewden St., Mr. Sharp and Mr. Drury Are Definitely Antiâ€"Labor production, the Hon. Mitchell Sharp, finance minister, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and a number of other big wheels in finance ‘and commerce are in my opinion reâ€" actionaries. & They have piles of money to back up their case and so we are constantly deluged with oneâ€"sided charts, graphs, statistics and speeches, inside of parliament and out, about the dire consequences to the economy if blue collar workâ€" ers at GM and Ford seek wage parity with their American counterparts. Now that automobile assembly lines in the U.S. and Canada are rapidly being merged into one great North American complex with the elimination of the auto tariffs, the economists hired to obtain slanted findings can no longer use the canard that wage parity will damgae the Canadian car industry. Economists are a resourceful bunch however, and_now that they have lost one crutch, they‘ll found another which is that if the auto workers get wage parity, labor in other industries will seek the same thing too. Will this trend have disasterous effects on the national economy as Drury, Sharp & Co. claim it will? I doubt it. Industry Minister Drury‘s contention that wage increases must rise no faster than the gross national product is so much utter nonsense that it constantly astounds me that so many people fall for it time and again. They constantly advocate wage restraint and more proâ€" ductivity as a method to curb inflation and rising livin‘ _ Now let‘s get onto Drury‘s theory that wages must rise no faster than productivity if ‘"Canada is to avoid pricing herself out of world markets. _ 2s Safe tires in the year 1966 sold its entire production run of tires worth $3,000,000. It made a 10 p.c. gross profit from sales which means a return to shareholders of $150,â€" 000 since the Federal and Provincial government corporaâ€" tion taxes took the other $150.000 stipulated by the 50 p.c. corporation lax. > Early this year, this typical Canadian company installed some extra machinery and increased its productivity seven p.c. or $210,000. Unhappy about inflation, the five p.c. sales tax and the latest income tax hike the blue, collar workers demanded a 10 p.c. pay boost. "Now wait a minute," replied the union president. "We studied last year‘s financial statement of the Safeâ€"Drive Tire Co. and learned that the workers‘ payroll amounted to 20 p.c. of total company disbursements. Was that stateâ€" ment accurate Sir?" minister and the Chamber of Commerce tells me* that if I raise your wages, we‘ll all be contributing to inflation and pricing ourâ€"only product â€" tires â€" off world markets. Now you wouldn‘t want the plant to close down because ob that would you?" "Of course it was." replied the company president. "Our own auditor made it up." "Well then if you increase our wages 10 p.c._above the $600,000 you paid us last year; with productivity rising seven p.c. because of our increased skills and the new equipment you had installed, you will still be ahead $150.000 minus your other costs that have nothing to do with us," explained the union president. . "By golly, you‘re right!" exclaimed the honest company president. "If I give you your wage increase, I will still have $150,000 to pay for the equipment and material necesâ€" sary to increase output. If this company only increased productivity five p.c., we could still afford to give you boys a 10 p.c. pay boost. That finance minister and the Chamber of Commerce are all wet. What‘s wrong with them? Are they antiâ€"labor or something? Why I‘ve never seen bigger ignoramuses or liars in my life:" Warming up to his new discovery the company presideni went on: ‘Bus and trucking companies won‘t have increase fares on Safeâ€"Drive‘s~account. We still sell them tires at last year‘s prices. "Now that you blue collar men have me thinking I know exactly why our profits keep shrinking. In the first place, whatever we clear above expenses for the shareholders is taxed at 50 p.c. by the finance minister. That landlord of ours raised the rent for the building by $33,000 last year and he didn‘t doâ€"a damn thing to earn it. Real estate taxe« only rose $8,000.‘And another reason profits are shrinking.
