1967 was a good year for Canada what with it being our and all. Were you surprised at how well Expo was received or at the way you responded to the song Ontariâ€"ariâ€"ariâ€"o? Wouldn‘t it be great if in 1968 and in the years to follow this pride in country (perhaps naâ€" tional selfâ€"respect is a better description) could be sustained. Following the custom of other years, this Christmas the students _ at Rexdale public school were given the opporâ€" tunity to express their feelings of ‘good will towards all men‘ in a very tangible way. Any who wished to (it was strictly voluntary) could donate to the Canadian Save the Children Fund. The goal was $85. for each of three children; Ramji Rathod of Bombay, India, Cesâ€" are Moscati of Rome, Italy and Yuet Wah Chan of Hong Kong. The money helps to provide the normal essentials of everyâ€" day living for these children who are in dire need. The proâ€" ject is an onâ€"going one with the pupils participating during the year by sending letters and gifts to their overseas friends on special occasions. December weddings are not news, but how about December december weddings. On Decemâ€" 7, 1967, Miss Mable Patterson, aged 75, became the wife of Mr. Alfred Wagner aged 83. ‘The ceremony. took place at Magistrate‘s Court with Mr. Herb Reagan actingâ€"as best man and Mrs. Sammon as Maid of Honour. Mr. and Mrs. Warâ€" ner are residents in the Hotel section of the Robert J. Smith Complex. The staff of the hotel cafeteria made a lovely wedâ€" ding cake for the happy couple. We understand that Mr. Warâ€" ner is known throughout the complex as a poet. Perhaps he will now be inspired to write some poems on the joys of sharing one‘s declining years. To Mr. Warner we offer conâ€" gratulations and to Mr. and Mrs. Warner, our very best wishes for happiness. When I was in the Rexdale Library recently, I askeéd Mrs. Cleo Stewart, Chief Librarian of the Rexdale Branch to tell me ‘What‘s new‘ and she did. She told me that the paint on the walls was fresh and new and the Winnie the Pooh picâ€" tures on the walls .were new (these are being circulated around the libraraies in Etobiâ€" coke and are the work of stuâ€" dents at the Brentwood Libâ€" rary) and that Miss Marilyn Hazard was new. Miss Hazard is the new boy‘s and girl‘s liâ€" brarian replacing Miss Roseâ€" mary Shackleton, who has deâ€" cided to go to Library School. If you have resolved that in 1968 you are going to do a little more for those who need a helping hand, you might be interested in Itearing about the Big Brother®MoÂ¥ement. What is a Big Brother?
