Operation Blister Operation Blister is the catchy name of a project sponsored by the World Council of Churches and undertaken by 400 . local young people to raise funds for a hospital in the Punjab region of India. It works this way. On Sunday, Sept. 24, the young people set out to walk from â€" Cloverdale (Highway 27 and Dundas) along the â€"Dundas â€" Highway toward Hamilton. The money is raised by the walkers, prior to undertaking their hike, obtaining pledges for so much per each mile that the walker lasts. It‘s a 35â€"mile walk. So this is what the walk is all about, and the funds raised will help equip the Ludhiana Hospital on the other side of the world. 5â€"Pin Bowling We had an inquiry last week from a Markland Wood resident as to when the bowling gets underway. Apparently on Thursâ€" day, Sept. 22 at 9:15 p.m. at the Plantation Bowl. The Markland Wood league is operated by Bruce Woolley (621â€"0649) and Jim Mecâ€" Knight for residents of Markland. Browsing Had a pleasant browse around the third annual art show, sponâ€" sored by the Kingsway Kiwanis Club at the Carling plant grounds at the weekâ€"end â€" although the instant I spotted two stands of pottery, I had to ask the friend who was accompanying me to reâ€" strain me if I got too carried away. The festival seems to be gainâ€" ing momentum each year. There was more to see and while most of the works were paintings and sketches, we imagine the pottery, wire figures, wall plaques, jewelâ€" lery and enamel work sold well, and provided something to buy for those who came with pin money. We hear the sales totalled $12,000 of which $2,400 is the club‘s take, so it would seem that Kiwanis projects will get a good financial boost this year. Find the Answers Motherhood is a biologicai fact, but good mothering is an acquired skill. â€"It doesn‘t come naturally to all women. A preâ€"school nursery workshop is being organized at the Church of St. Wilfrid to help mothers see their children more objectâ€" ively and acquire greater underâ€" standing of their needs. The mothers observe the nurâ€" sery session which are directed by professionals who have beer trained at the Institute of Child Study. The workshop opens Sept. 28 and runs for 10 weeks. For Retarded The preâ€"school nursery program for retarded children began Monâ€" day at St. Jamesâ€"Islington Church which has donated space for this class since its inception four years ago. A professional teacher is assistâ€" ed by volunteers (not the mothers of the children), and should you be interested in donating some help in this venture, the person to call is Mrs. L. Roulston at 231â€"35440. I visited a class last June, and the volunteers told me they derive a great deal of satisfaction from the progress the children make, and are only sorry that the proâ€" gram is interrupted for the sumâ€" mer months, because they feel the gains of the consistent trainâ€" ing slip during the holiday period. I hope everyone enjoyed their vacation, witild “sil;ecialv -arrangements with Mr. Sun to shine every day for them. My summer was brightened by the arrival of my cousin and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robinson, of Wirral, Cheshire, who flew from England for one month‘s holiday. They were the guests of their son and daughterâ€" inâ€"law, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Robinâ€" son and family, of Don Mills. Two weeks spent in the Georâ€" gian Bay area, and trips to the States and surrounding localities provided them with a fraction of the beauty of Canada. They took back glowing accounts and are looking forward to their next trip over here. i Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Mealor arâ€" rived from Montreal, to see their niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. E.
