Alan Bull, Dr. Mel LeGard and George Bull, the three charter memkers. Of the six who weren‘t there, one couldn‘t participate in the merry making, another was called out beâ€" cause of his job, twarwere on winter holidays and two were ill. Another reason the Lions are so active is the support they have received from their wives and sister club, the Weston Lionettes. Both wives and Lionettes were richly thanked at the charter night ceremonies last week and for good reason. Much credit is also due to Weston‘s town fathers, the citizens of Weston and the surroundâ€" ing areas, Without the support of the citizenry, it is perhaps fair to say that the Lions club could not have achieved as much as it did. With so much accomplished in the past, we hesitate to predict the aims the Lions club will set during the next 25 years. The Weston Lions club deserves a vote of thanks from the greater community of Weston. Three ingredients are needed to build an arena, the land, the organization and fund raisâ€" ing, and the monetary contributions. Some measure of the great love members have for their club, lies in the fact that cut of the handful who originally founded the organizaâ€" tion, three of them are still with it playing active roles. . FOR FUTURE SAFEâ€"KEEPING When the Great War ended August 15, 1945, the Lions club decided to do almost the imposâ€" sible â€" raise enough funds to build a community centre and Weston arena where thousands of Weston youngsters and those from the surroundâ€" ing areas could ice skate and play hockey. With a substantial piece of land on the east bank of the Humber River, south of Lawrence Ave. donated by the town, the Lions club built tennis courts and track and field facilities and a swimming pool. And as a fitting climax to the first stage of the club‘s eommunity recreation program, the Lions and town council earlier this year held a ceremony to open the new $20,000 gates to their great recreation centre,. In 1950 when the dream was completed, the Lions organization embarked on other projects. With a substantial piece of land on the east bank of the Humber River, south of Lawrence Ave. donated by the town, the Lions club built During the war years, the Lions club launch ed a dozen and one projects to help the allied forces, the sick and hungry and those who had their homes destroyed by bombs in England. Ever since the club was chartered a quarter of a century ago, it has been devoted to comâ€" munity service. If anyone has ever earned hearty congratulaâ€" tions on his 25th birthday, surely it would have to be the Weston Lions Club. * 1@ || 25 Years Of Service FROM HARRY WILLIAMS Elk‘s Men‘s & Boys‘ Wear 1957 WESTON RD.
