In coâ€"operation with the Board of Governors of the Westoni Area Swimming Pool and its chairman John Watson, the pool is| supplied at no cost to the Town of Weston, so that the Recreation | Commission may conduct the Red Cross Water Safety program, an adult nonâ€"swimmers class and a weekly visit to the pool by groups of children from the playgrounds. Skills acquired on the playground in childhood or youth are often used in leisure activities throughout life. It is impossible to measure the great happiness which the playground brings to the people of a community. Quite a large part of the summer recreation pbmmme in Weston is centered in, on, and around the Weston Area Swimâ€" ming Pool. This aquatic part of our program is operated from 8:45 to 12 noon each day Monday to Friday. Under the direction of the Recreation Commission and superâ€" vision of Ray Yeoman, our Aquatic Supervisor â€" over 900 chilâ€" dren from 5 years of age up to 16 years of age are taking a 7 week training in the Red Cross Beginners, Juniors, Intermediate and Senior qualifications. Another class is held for the Royal Life Saving Society â€" Bronze Medallion. Children at other levels take 45 minute lessons each Tuesâ€" day and Thursday. All children registered get a minimum of 1% hours instruction per week for a full six weeks â€" at a registraâ€" tion fee of only one dollar. Another 500 children get to swim each Tuesday and Thursâ€" day at no cost to the parents â€" when the playground ‘supervisors bring the children from the parks each week. Elm and Merrill playgrounds swim each Tuesday morning in the wading pool between 9:30 and 10:30 and Denison, Holley and Grattan use the wading pool from 9:30 to 10:30 on Thursâ€" days. ~ Children in the Beginners and Juniors and also the nonâ€" swimmers class report each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 30 minute lessons from their instructor.
