Many.times there are escapades occurâ€" ring in this village. that would be hiEhly sensational reading,â€"but you take no notice of them. Perhaps the trials take place in private and thereâ€" fore they escape your notice. George street has been the scene of sevanl{ spicy affairs which apparently have escaped your cagle eys. ‘ I am glad to learn that the. Moffat Stove Works at the present time are very. busy ; 42 hands are being ‘\employed. Whilst many of the hands are boarding around in different places, their families are living away from the vilage. This"Rind ofâ€"thing. is very wrong and shows a very great want of enterprise on the part of the Weston people. This difficulty in some measure might beobviatedâ€" if we had quick trausit from the east to the west part of the village and this, transit is to be had by the electric cars. No one that looks at this matter in any kind of a liberal and enterpris~ ing way will but admit that it will do: this place a vast deal of good: Much as we havé progressed in the past we. will still more progress in the future. It is but & few months since the pubâ€" ‘lic schoolâ€"was finished and it was then said * What in the world do â€"we want of such a building?" When the building was started we had but three teachers,. now we have four and so it will be, in the course of a year or two we will require anotherâ€"and the buildâ€" ing of thé.eTectric"cars and working of the same in this community is going to increase our population and that at no cost: to us, but rather will pu money in our pockets by giving us with the "Queen city of the west." Many persons in the city, to avoid cityâ€"taxes, would"takeâ€"up their regiâ€" dence here if we had clectric cars and electricâ€" lights.. In the city of New York halfthe men who do business in it live in the suburbs. Weston is but eight miles from the market of Toronâ€" to city. What better suburban resiâ€" dence with the help of the suburban electric car could be found than Wesâ€" ton. The uncertainty of the steam railway has lost us many a good resiâ€" dent. It is not necessary for me to name them as they are too wellâ€"known to many of ms. During this last month much to the disgust of many of us, who wished to catch the 8 o‘clock for the city, we have found this trainâ€" an hour or two late. M (oofiitie MA Sny ol ie ere O ut cb n s d ud Is it too much to o? that 10 tickets a day for five days in the wegk are sold at the station here. for the city at 45 céents each and return ; this would give per year $1,170 ‘Then again on .each Saturday at least 50 tickets are goid ‘at 25 cents and réturn, which would give $650 yearly.~~ The saving upon these ‘atmounts, pot counting commutations, which would be granted on the street cars at the same figures as on the steam ‘railway, ‘reckoning ‘the cost to the city and return at 20¢., would be $780.. Another feature and a most important one to every person who is desirous of getting to the lake shore in the summer monthsâ€"whereas it costs at least now 25 cents,it will by these cars to the Junction and return only cost ten cents. The electric cars for short distances at least are bound to be universal. Steamâ€"for long disâ€" tances may‘and will for many years to. come, at least, be the popular means of transit. . In the neighboring: republic many townsâ€" and â€"villages are. being united by electricity that hithâ€" erto were hothing~â€"more nor less thah" almost barren wastes, but are now by the aid of the electric car rapidly filling up. ‘ £€ lihoumn io' :!odlhn the Weston citiâ€" zen who might isposed to oppose that $5,000 loan on the score of wono,:ny would be ‘3 shortâ€"sighted. Not only would the U?‘in uestion be a boon to the village and buzt every citizen in it, but twice the amount asked for would come back into the pockets of the people in the shape of reduced fares. ‘Then look at the advantages of the l;-tem itself, . Cars run, say, every hour; i yow- ond car take the next; and so on. on the cars stop at every street crossing, road crossing mrnd other points, where you can get on or off as the case may. be,. And just Snlfl:n‘: besides, that you can get on one of t! cars and travel across York Townshi through the Junction, and‘ clear hmu& the city ptmn_fw%hpflhfm oll ten cent than one cen mile The bonts aikod Tor by the siredd cnitway is a very modest ‘one, and. there ;E?: to be & dozen votes moo:fl'd!’t‘\lul Six,â€"I take the. following from a Junction paper and it appears to be so applicable that Iâ€"reproduce it here : «and r.d" $rome Domins raper vate corporations. heavy chai for building iron bridges, stations, etc., have. been paid â€" }yur to year rather than heaped up capital account, and from.this timg O% we have a right to hope that the | eolonial will x at least solfâ€"sustai f while after the fast Atlantic service touches Halifax the road will be more profitable.
