WANTED â€" SALES HELP for Ladies‘ Clothing Store in MWeston. _ Part_â€" Time.â€" "Call 242â€"8313 I would like to take this opportunity to Thank You for supporting me in my reâ€"election. There are many issues that will be facing us this next term and as your representative, I can assure you that I will act in our community‘s best interests. I am pleased that I was chosen as Chairperson of the Board for this next year and that I will represent our Board at the Metropolitan School Board. Following are some key issues that our Board and community is facing: The Metro Toronto School Board approved a tax increase of 3% for all gubhc school supporters in Metro â€" for our Board this meant a decrease of 4.2 million in our budget. These savings were achieved mainly through cuts in our Senior Staff, new program areas and a 15% cut from every department. The bottom line is that the students and classrooms would not suffer. On February 22nd, Metro Council gave final approval for installation of traffic signals at Weston Road and King Street and should be in place for the start of school in September. Thanks to Councillor McDonald and Chairman Tonks for their assistance in this endeavour. The Ministry of Education has placed many initiatives before us in the past months. The newly released Royal Commission on Learning and the task force to study the amalgamation of School Boards are the most significant and our now being studied by your Board. The results from the election indicated to me that a number of you were not satisfied with my performance as your Trustee. In order to do my job, I need you to tell me of your concerns and point of view. Call me at 394â€"4454 or write me % Board of Education, City of York, M6M 4A8. Working together we can make our community and our schools better. There is now a caption a the bottom of your screen advising who the speaker is and the topic under discussion. I notice also that Shaw Cable is splitting the screen and showing the two persons involved when inquiries are made. Also, at the beginning of Council proceedings, there will be a preâ€"taped introduction explaining Council procedures such as how the consent agenda works. The above improvements, while small, in my opinion, make a big difference in your understanding of public business. MY WITHDRAWAL AS A LIBERAL CANDIDATE â€"I had been asked, by a number of Weston residents, whose judgement I respect, to consider seeking the Liberal nomination in Yorkâ€"South (essentially the west half of the City of York) for the Provincial election expected in 1995/ I gave serious consideration to this request because there are such provincial issues as to management of the economy, the alarming size of the deficit and much misguided legislation such as the reverse discrimination policies embodied in the Employment Equity Act that certainly need to be challenged. However, after much soulâ€"searching, I decided to give first priority to continuing to serve the residents of Weston as their Councillor and accordingly I have withdrawn my name as a Liberal candidate for the Yorkâ€"South riding. I would very much appreciate you feedâ€"back on any of the above items or indeed, anything else in connection with City services. Call me at 394â€"2415 or write me at 2700 Eglinton Ave. W., City of York, Ontario, M6M 1V1. I thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Councillor!
