North of the watershed, _ the Holland marsh flooded, ruining many farms and homes. The marsh supplies most of the garden vegetables _ for _ Ontario _ and hundreds of tons of food was destroyed. In Woodbridge, the Humber River widened from it‘s normal 65 feet to 350 feet. Many homes were destroyed, 250 people were homeless, ten died. The town‘s _ water supply was contaminated. A whole community had to be relocated and was later reâ€"built on higher ground. The lower part of Raymore Drive, located on the west bank of the Humber, south of Lawrence was wiped out, 34 homes were swept out to Lake Ontario. The residents were lulled by the knowledge that there had never been any such danger before. When the power failed at 10:30 pm, many just went to bed.
