The start of another school year promises to be a busy and exciting time in the Ward 6 Family of Schools. The Social Contract has been the "highlight" of the summer. The Metro School Boards will experience cutâ€"backs in funding levels, with staff facing paycuts and unpaid days off. There will also be a 4.75% attrition to teaching staff by 1996. This causes concern because of increased attendance in school classes. The Province has asked for a $75M savings from the from the Metro Boards. The Metro Boards do not receive any funding from the Province â€" should we then give the money to the Province?? If the answer is NO, please phone our local MPP, Bob Rae, and let him know! The start of demolition and construction of a replacement school for H. J. Alexander has begun. The students are now being bussed to Yvonne Public School in North York, and should be back in their new school in September of 1995. The crosswalk and traffic lights at both Ralph Street and Lawrence, and at King Street and Weston Road have been given a final review by Metro Traffic and we have received written notification that nothing will be done. I have therefore organized a community meeting on Tuesday, October 19th â€" 7:00 pm, at C. R. Marchant Senior Public School and Alan Tonks, our Metro Councillor, along with representatives of the Metro Traffic dept. and the Ministry of Transportation will be on hand to explain their decision. Many parents have called about this issue â€" please come out to the community meeting and voice your concerns. Weston Memorial Junior Public School will be celebrating its 75th anniversary next year. We would like to collect some memorabilia, pictures, etc. â€" if you are a former student, and have anything that we could borrow in order to reproduce it, please send it to the School in care of Mr. Stu Hill, Chairman of the Anniversary Committee. Also, the of the school are having a Craft and Bake Sale on Friday, November 5th, 2:00 to 9:00 PM in the School Gym, with all proceeds going to the 75th Anniversary celebrations. This fall we are holding a contest with the Ward with the Ward 6 Family of Schools. The Art and Picture contest started at the beginning of the school year, and the winning entries and awards will be displayed at the Fall Fair on October 2nd. We‘ll see you at the Fair! As always, if you have any concerns or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 394â€"4454.
