THE BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR THE CITY OF YORK Many thanks to all students, staff and community members from Ward 6, who helped sign our "Go Leafs Go" banner. The banner was made by the students from C. R. Marchant Senior Public School, and was covered with over 4,000 signatures from all of my schools. Student representatives, Alan Tonks and myself, presented the banner to Doug Gilmour and the Leafs on Friday, May 14, '93. Our banner is proudly hanging in the Gardens, hopefully bringing the Leafs lots of luck!! The Edufest Kick-Off-Breakfast was a resounding success with over S2,000.00 being raised for a new scholarship for York Humber students. Hats off to all who participated during Edufest '93. H. J. Alexander Community School has now been given the necessary approvals for replacement. Demolition and construction is slated to begin in September 1993. It will be great to finally give this community a new educational facility. Our children's safety is a number one priority. This past week, I have been trying to speed up the process for traffic lights at Ralph Street-Lawrence Avenue and Weston Road-King Street. I had meetings with Alan Tonks, various Metro Traffic and Ministry of Transportation officials. There are going to be a number of further traffic studies at the end of May. Although no official decision has been made, I will continue to work for a quick resolution to this on-going safety problem in our community. With the summer holidays fast approaching, I wish all of you a safe and happy summer. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or suggestions at 394-4454.
