Summer gymnastics for kids If you are wondering what your children can do when school is out and the long sumâ€" mer months stretch before them, you may want to conâ€" sider the University of Toronto Gymnastics Club, which offers a summer program for children aged fourâ€"16 years. By George Chuvalo This summer the Gymnastics Club offers a number of difâ€" ferent programs for boys and girls. For those fourâ€"five years The program‘s goals are to inâ€" troduce the child to gymnastics and physical fitness, and to develop an interest in both. Different programs SPORTS BEAT old there are Kindergym classes, which introduce the child to basic gymnastics skills as well as working on basic body movement. Recreational classes teach the child over five years old basic gymnastic skills. These programs follow a level system that allows the child to progress at their own rate, while following a safe and proâ€" gressive program. Top gymnasts Children can also participate in a preâ€"competitive and comâ€" petitive program that offers training at a higher and more intensive level. This program has produced many top gymâ€" nasts, including Mike Inglis, who achieved world proâ€" minence when he won a gold medal in an international comâ€" petition earlier this year in Budapest. The girls program is taking off, with girls winning many medals at invitational competiâ€" tions throughout the City. The summer programs are ofâ€" fered weekdays from 9:00 a.m.â€"12 noon and 1:00â€"4:00 p.m,, in twoâ€"week blocks: July 7â€"18, July 22â€"August 1, and August 5â€"15. The program inâ€" structors are adults with many years of experience in Gymâ€" nastics and university students. To add variety to the summer program, there is an optional half hour swim at the end of the day. Costs for the program are $120 to $130, and enrolment is limited to 30 children per class. The Gymnastics Club is part of the university‘s Community Service Program which offers facilities for public use. The program includes such acâ€" tivities as karate, tennis, swimâ€" ming, synchronized swimming and many others.
