CN Tower exhibit marks 10th year With the use of photographs, newspaper articles, architecâ€" tural drawings, models and items of memorabilia, the exâ€" hibit also outlines some of the different designs proposed for the tower, as well as the conâ€" struction of the Top of Toronto restaurant. Also on hand are arâ€" ticles on some of the famous people and politicians the tower has played host to. Two videos are available for viewing. Before conâ€" struction began, however, a soil expert had to analyze 100 feet down the condition of the bedrock the tower‘s foundaâ€" tion would be built on. The location was determined by two main factorsâ€"the availability of land that could be freed of its previous railway use, and the lakefront location which would best serve the purpose of transmitting broadâ€" cast signals to the southern Onâ€" tario region. Although the official opening was not until June, 1976, the tower became the world‘s tallest free standing structure in April, 1975 when it reached its height of 1,815¢ 5.
