t might have been just a Igame for Grade 7 students from Laurelwood public school, but the reality of the sitâ€" uation hit home for some because of the setting. The class was one of three groups visiting the Food Bank of Waterloo Region recently as part of the National Hunger Awareness Day. The school, which is in an affluent area of Waterloo, has participated in some major fundraisers for the food bank in the past and stuâ€" dents were invited to take a look at where their donations were going. But before they got a tour of the facilities, they were asked to play a little game of life. Not the board game, but one that simuâ€" lated the situation that a lot of families find themselves in. The students were split into three groups â€" one representâ€" ing lowâ€"income families, anothâ€" er representing middleâ€"income families and the last a group of high earners. They were given a budget for the week and asked to pull cards and make deciâ€" sions about their priorities based on the money they were given.
