By Dr. Sheela Basrur, Ontario‘s Chief Medical Officer of Health (NC)â€"Ontario, like the rest of the world, is experiencing a delay in receiving the flu vaccine this year due to production difficulties in developing the vaccine. What this means is the flu vaccine will be available at the end of October or the beginning of November â€" about one month later than usual. This year, local public health units will be working closely with health care providers in their communities to make sure flu shots are provided first to people at high risk of getting the flu. This includes the elderty, those of any age living in longâ€"term care homes or other chronic care facilities, and adults and children with chronic health conditions.
