Finding gold in Yukon gravel he Baby Nugget RV I Park is located at Mile Marker 650 on the Alaska Highway in the Yukon. The roadways to the RV sites are gravel. There‘s gold in the gravel, but this isn‘t surprising. Gwen and Don Lee who own the park, have been gold miners since 1976. _ Don gave us a lesson in panning for gold. He taught us how to swirl the river water in the pan just the right way so that the tiny precious flakes clusâ€" tered along the grooves of the pan. He described the best spots for panning in a river. The Lees have writien a book, Rivers of Gold, about the challenges of staking and developing a claim in the Yukon. The garden was like an oasis on the otherwise bare ground. _ For a treat, Don caught fish in the nearby creek. Fresh fruit was not availâ€" able. We‘re guessing that Gwen would have been ecstatic to see a fresh strawâ€" berry. We‘re also guessing that if she tasted the cream cheese filled treats in this recipe she would have radioed the helâ€" icopter to go for more. The flowers and vegetaâ€" bles have been officially judged for their merits in each category.
