A Pleasant Task V The following is part of an ongoing series of pieces by local artist Peter Etril Snyder. In the series, Peter will describe for us some of the works he has created. Although traditional farmâ€" ing is physically demanding, this lifestyle also allows for times of rest. True, there are many periods of the year when dealing with the crops demands long hours. Harâ€" vest, haying, ploughing and maple syruping are times of intense labour, but in winter, there is a chance to relax a litâ€" tle. This is a period to repair machinery and prepare for the coming year. I am not suggesting that the Mennonâ€" ite farmer is ever without work, but in the winter the demands are less insistent. Anyone who has managed livestock knows about how incessant those tasks are. When maple syrup time comes, many young men are glad to get outside and enjoy that sometimes hectic seaâ€" son when nature‘s demands must be met.
