A new atmospheric and planetary sciences underâ€" graduate program has been developed at UW and a graduate program and technical short coursâ€" es will be initiated in 2004. It provides technical support and develops models of interest to regipnal municipalities in southern Ontario. Working with the priâ€" vate sector, the research provides modelling tools and expertise regarding such things as motor vehiâ€" cles, electric power and mining in ways to meet environmental standards. The research also supports the environmental conâ€" sulting industry. As part of its public outâ€" reach, the centre is a pubâ€" lic information resource on current atmospheric issues for the news media and nonâ€"governmental organizations. Work includes regional atmospheric modelling to provide scientific informaâ€" tion for air quality policy, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Energy. As well, model developâ€" ment and support relagd to U.S.â€"Canada transâ€" boundary air issues are in a proposed partnership with Environment Canada. ratory\gxperimegts, satelâ€" lite observations and modâ€" elling to investigate this complex _ atmospheric problem.
