Three politician share personal stories about striking balance in their lives ’I"le Women‘s Committee of the local Chamber of Commerce will present Kitchener MP Karen Redman, Environment Minâ€" ister Elizabeth Witmer, and Waterloo _ Mayor _ Lynne Woolstencroft as speakers at a breakfast meeting, Sept 19 at the Art Bar in the Kitchenerâ€" Waterloo Art Gallery. Devoted to celebrating, encouraging and providing a forum for business women to grow and learn, the Women‘s Leadership Comâ€" mittee of the Chamber has invited the three prominent female politicians to share both the challenges they have faced personally and professionally, having choâ€" sen political careers. Kitchener native Karen Redman graduated from the University _ of _ Waterloo and currently resides in Kitchener with her husband Warren and her four chilâ€" dren, Laura, Abby, Joe and Jim. Redman‘s political career began in 1988, as a trustee and viceâ€"chair with the Waterloo County board of education. From 1994 to 1997 Redman served as a councillor for the City of Kitchener and the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. On June 2, 1997, Redman was elected member of parâ€" liament _ for _ Kitchener Centre. In 1996, the Ontario Public School Boards‘ Association awardâ€" ed her the Dr. Harry Paikin Award for her exceptional contribution in the field of education. She received the Paul â€" Harris _ Award â€" of Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Waterloo in 1997 "for service above self". Elizabeth Witmer, born in the Netherlands and raised in Exeter, ON., graduated from the University of Western Ontario. Witmer and her husband Cameron have two children , Scott and Sarah. A former teacher, Elizabeth served as a trustee for the Waterloo County board of education from 1980 to 1990, including an unprecedented five years as chairperson. In July of 2000, she was presented with the internaâ€" tional Philippe Pinel Award in recognition of her contriâ€" bution to mental health reform and the humane delivery of mental health services. Witmer was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1990 as the representative for Waterloo North. In June of 1995, she was sworn in as Ontario‘s Minister of Labour. Elizabeth was then appointâ€" ed Minister of Health on Oct. to serve as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment. LIFESTYL Woolstencroft‘s _ public office life began in 1970 when she was first elected trustee for the Waterloo County board of education. She went on to municipal government in 1985 when she was first elected to the City of Waterloo council, a position she held until 1991. Woolstencroft also served on the regional council from 1986â€"1991. After taking a short break, Woolstencroft was reâ€"elected in 1997 as city and regional councillor, and in 2000 as mayor of the City of Waterloo. 10, 1997, Minister of Health and Longâ€"Term Care in June of 1999, and Minister of the Environment on Feb. 8, 2001. Lynne Woolstencroft was born in Saskatoon, Saskâ€" atchewan and was educated in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario. With husband Peter, they moved to Waterloo when he was offered a faculty posiâ€" tion at the University of Waterloo. The Woolstencrofts settled in Waterloo, raising their two children, Anne and Robert.
