Council turns down First Bull's request tor permit application extension The $230-million uptown redevelop- ment agreement between the City of Waterloo and the First Gulf Development Corporation isn't dead - yet. However, if First Gulf fails to submit a complete building permit application to the city for 80.000 square feet of land by Aug. I, the existing agreement will become null and void. Waterloo council voted Monday night to take no further action with regard to the existing agreement the two parties entered into almost two years ago. Termination of the deal would mean the parties would remain bound onlytby the current Waterloo Town Square park- ing agreement which requires the city to provide 600 parking spaces for the mall. including 55 spaces on the Caroline Street parking lot. until the year 2028. Not exactly the outcome First Gulf was hoping for when the company approached council. requesting the dead- line to submit its nrst building permit application be postponed to Dec. 1. If the request was approved, it would have been the second extension given to the company within a year. Last fall, council agreed to postpone the suhmis- sion date from Dec, l. 2000 In Aug. Rick Williams said that for a public course, the rates the city is demanding for a round of 18 holes are ridicu- lous. "For a municipal course, these rates are just not reason- able" When the course opens this September, a round of golf will cast $45 from Monday through Thursday, and $50 from Friday to Sunday, as well as holidays.
