Waterloo girls softball may use RIM Park for its invita- tional representative tour- nament and year-end house league tournament, says Wally Willms. club presi- dent. "We are hosting our first invitational tournament this year." Willms says. "If it's suc- cessful. we would like to make it an annual tourna- ment and expand the num- ber of divisions in the future. If we do, then we would be able to make use of the new diamonds at RIM Park." While he doesn't antici- pate using the park's six dia- monds for league games at the current time -- house league uses school dia- monds and the rep program operates at Hillside Park - Willms says the gymnasium and field house will be use- ful in late winter and early spring for tryouts, practices and pre-season training. While the number ofsoft- ball and fastball players in the city has not increased dramatically, membership has been holding steady for the past few years. Participation has hovered around 600 members for softball in the past few years and around 500 for fastball. Both leagues offer programs ranging from T-Ball (age five and six) to Midget (17 to 19).
