A Jamaican farmer created the name "grapefruit" because of its grapeâ€"like cluster on the trees It is believed that the grapefruit was introduced to the United States in the 1800s in the form of seeds transported _ by _ either Spanish or French settlers to Florida. _ Eventually, â€" the grapefruit made its way to South Texas, most likely by visiting Spanish missionarâ€" ies.
