The chairman of Project Lift the Inc. says the specialized transit system has no plans to further contract out core services in order to save money, Rosemary Pell made the comment after presenting a progress and status report to Waterloo council Monday night on Project Lift‘s efforts to reduce expenditures and increase efficiency. Pell said Project Lift would not consider contracting out any more core services to the private sector such as driâ€" ving, scheduling and lobbying for specialized transit duties despite the fact a small business consulting service report seemed to recommend that it do so. Wilfrid Laurier University‘s Small Business Consulting Service completed a report for Project Lift this past Aug, 30 to see it there were ways the specialized transit system could cut costs. The report was prepared on behalf of Proâ€" ject Lift at the request of the City of Waterloo. One of the report‘s six recommendations said that due to the trend to privatize governmental services, Project Lift should continue to deliver requests for tender to priâ€" vate transportation companies. But Pell said after the meeting Project Lift officials would not be making this recommendation to cut costs to its board of ditectors meeting Nov. 5 because it would seriously affect its mandate.
