Waterloo Siskins went shopping last week picking up defensemen Matt Kreutzer and Jason Cartier from Elmira Sugar Kings shoring up what they believe now to be one of the toughest bluelines in the league. They have the scoring power in leading scorer David Pfohl and Joe Pikula, 62 and 48 points, respectively. However, there‘s still one more item left on their shopping list. It‘s no secret that Siskins are unhappy with lhcirgouhmdingsinmionmdmmnd\op- ping for another. That became evident on Saturâ€" day night after they dropped a 7â€"1 decision to Kitchener Dutchmen. Siskin keeper Ryan Halliâ€" day faced only 24 shots in the game, allowing three goals on the first four shots. Although Halliday made some outstanding saves on Sunday night in a 4â€"3 loss to Owen Sound Greys, he also let in a couple questionable goals that even raised the eyebrows of coach Rob Hooper. Siskins second goaltender is Bob Van Houwelingen, a Waterloo native who played with the midgets last season. "Let‘s face it. There hasn‘t been a game this year where our goaltending has saved us or kept us in the game," admitted Hooper. Ironically, Halliday has the third best goalsâ€"against average in the league with a 3.58 average. Van Houwelinâ€" gen sits with a 3.66 average. Understandably, Hooper doesn‘t want to upset Halliday or Van Houwelingen by admitting that theres a problem, but junior B hockey is won and lost with goaltending.
