PAGE 8 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 1994 A matter of rights Respect for the law because it protects "Human Rights" cannot be said to be a moral position in any precise sense, if the definition of rights becomes so broad as to protect, in the name of morality itself, actions that are morally repugnant to significant porâ€" tions of the citizenry. Muck On behalf of the Food Bank of Waterlco Region, I would like to thank the Waterioo Chronicle for its supâ€" port during our Spring Food Drive. It enabled us to reach and surpass our target of 90,000â€"lbe. of food. This food will be used to help feed more than 4,000 needy families over the summer months. The Food Bank would not be able to meet the increased demand for emergency food without your help. Your continued support is vital and greatly appreciated. Your commitment to our organization goes a long way to help make Waterloo Region hunger free! Thanks for the fantastic support. 0_ As a student of the humanities and a writer, I have always felt the need to question the existing system. Now, since I am a young teacher, I refuse to jump on the bandwagon of "educational progress" with its buzz words and jargon. I refuse to follow change blindly; I must see that change is for the betterment of the stuâ€" dents. We are told that if we do not welcome change, we are afraid of progress and I resent the ease with which my concerns are called cowardly fears. Change must be for the better GRAYSTONE GALLERY Yes, I am skeptical and yes, I do have fears, but BEFORE THAT FINAL DECISION AT NO COST ORIGINALS _ LIMITED EDITION PRINTS SCULPTURE 14 Princess St. E. Indeed, is Spell Check really éffective or is it allowing the student to avoid learning how to pay attention to detail? _ only do students develop the mechanics of writing, they must also be able to analyze literary works. Ultiâ€" mately the humanities allow us to question life around us because as we study literature, we study our world. Do we want our young people to question with clarâ€" ity and precision? Do we want them to be critical thinkers? Or do we wish to see them blindly ride the "information highway"? If so, computer literacy will surpass English literacy because no one will be left to question the system‘s progressive journey. True progress is born out of dissension.
