PAGE 10 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, 1993 Good communication is essential Can you express to others, in a meaningful way, the thoughts and ideas you want to get across? Here is a piece entitled Communications and the Man on the Mwe.and.nyoumunfikelyhneitelmhue,lwo\dd like to quote it at length. "Consider his counterpart, the fellow with the brains, intelâ€" ligence, imagination and wit â€" but with limited or faulty comâ€" munication powers. What an allâ€"round waste he is. He‘s as useful as a cigarette without a match, a bottle of fine wine without a corkscrew, or a succulent nut without a nutcracker. "The man in industry with corked intelligence due to his inability to communicate is a common problem. Uncracked imagination, unlit potential, corked intelligence, this man of wasted potential remains a mystery to all industry. And industry does not suffer alone. Schools have learned scholars who fail as teachers because they cannot transfer their learning to their students. Our churches are crowded with dedicated people who fail as shepherds because they canâ€" not communicate their zeal to their flocks. Where does it all end? What‘s the solution to the problem? 'Whereor'henthildimmbdmnkm'ledpmd expression occurs is a complicated consideration. It‘s foolish to blame the old scapegoats â€" the home, the schools and the world we live in. Besides, men on the move look to the future ntherthandwellmgonputfmlum "To the man on the move it is never too late. He gets a sense of achievement from turning past failures into current successes and future benefits. He may look at these very scapegoats thatmyhavechutndhimintheptn,b\nonly because they might supply the match, the corkscrew, or the nutcracker he is looking for. , "Every community offers educational opportunity to the man on the move. Courses on communication skills, writing, speaking, discussion, selling or marketing courses are offered at nominal cost. Increasingly, industry is recommending conâ€" tinued education in communication skills to employees in whom they spot potential. It pays! If we want to improve our communication skills there is no shortage of supply." _ _ CUSTOMERâ€"FRIENDLY PARKING +« OVER 320 QUALITY STORES & SERVICES WELCOME You To UPToWwN WATERLOO Mythnnhto}krhertm.mwmnlhnt.&.
