Peggy Huether tries to make each day of her life worthwhile by keeping busy with a wide variety of activities. Michelle Lahn photo Volunteering on the Waterloo Recreation Complex campaign was a good start for Huether. She Huether is modest. She doesn‘t like to talk ‘about herself too much but it is obvious that she has contributed a great deal to the community. Huether calls herself a ‘Waterloo girl‘ â€" born and raised in the area â€" and as a Waterloo girl, it‘s important for her to give something back. Michelle Lahn Chronicle Staff Margaret (Peggy) Huether may have entered into semiâ€"retireâ€" ment, but she isn‘t ready to slow down just yet. It‘s important to Peggy to give back to community "I‘ve .alwayé had an attitude to do my best and to help others," says Huether. In addition to her work on the campaign and the Advisory Counâ€" cil, Huether still likes to dabble in her lifeâ€"long profession of nursâ€" ing. It‘s something that she isn‘t quite ready to give it up. "It‘s very difficult to give nursing up when you‘ve enjoyed your profession so much. I‘ve had a fullâ€"life of hard work and giving to other people and I get a feeling that is indescribable, money can‘t buy it. So I‘ll always be in volved," says Huether. "I will are, no one should be at the bottom of the totem pole. You have to be involved a little to make your life worthwhile." "I am finding out that a lot of seniors _ underestimate â€" themâ€" selves. Some of them have lost a little bit of their selfâ€"esteem and you have to work on that," she adds. "It doesn‘t matter who you Huether also recently accepted a twoâ€"year tenure position on the Senior‘s Advisory Committee, a committee which creates awareâ€" ness amongst seniors concerning the various programs that are offered in the area. Well, Huether certainly isn‘t ‘standing still.‘ She began workâ€" ing on the campaign in March of last year and hasn‘t missed a day since. She was there when the first shovel of dirt was overturned and she plans to work on the campaign until the end of the year. body can count and you can‘t just stand still.
