PAGE 22 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY JUNE 28 Emily Saliers and Amy Ray are gifted singers who use little more than the vibrancy of their voices to create beautiful, expressive music. There‘s a distinct regional flavor to the songs â€" the two hail from Decatur, Georgia â€" but the seamless harmonies, gorgeous melodies and intimate lyrics make them something special. It‘s a rarity when an album works simply because it celebrates the joy of singing. Maggie and Terre Roche‘s Seductive Reasoning and Silly Sisters, the terrific collaboration between Maddy Prior and June Tabor come to mind. The Indigo Girls exceptional debut is in the same class. Indigo Girls Indigo Girls Epic For those of us lucky enough to have discovered this Boston band‘s debut last year, the release of Tied To The Tracks is something of an event. As they proved on their first album, Treat Her Right know the bluesâ€"rock territory as well as anyone. With Tied To The Tracks they continue to integrate the subtleâ€" ties, pacing and emotional thrust of great blues with a muscular rock beat. On the slower numbers, such as King Of Beers, slideâ€"guitars and harmonica produce an almost chilling effect. Such moments separate Treat Her Right from the rest of the whiteâ€"blues crowd. Tied To The Tracks Treat Her Right Dogs D‘Amour lead wave of British rock : No npme e ces the Who. Bands such as the Godfathers and now the Dogs D‘Amour are leading a new wave of raucous British rock. In The Dynamite Jet Saloon opens with Debauchery, a song that sets the tone for what‘s to come and is a fitting introduction to what the Dog‘s D‘Amour are all about. There‘s a touch of Guns and Roses decadence, Stones braggadocio and New York Dolls glitter. The combination makes for an explosive raunch ‘n‘ roll package, full of stinging guitars, boozeâ€" drenched vocals and smouldering songs that capture the band‘s barroom roots. The Dogs obviously have done their homework. Now they‘ve got a few lessons of their own to add to the rock and curriculum. the But alas there‘s ‘l;o*pâ€"e-â€"o'n- t'il-; ‘il:l:i‘z‘;l;.,v:nd thankfully it‘s not the umpteenth recycling of SLOMML CSc aD E4 ". ce â€" comes to rock and roll.
