Gabe Lee just keeps on writing songs and his audience keeps on loving them. Lee and his band will be bringing some of these songs back home, Dec. 31, when the group plays the Olde Hespeler to release its first tape and celebrate the New Year with deweted Cambridge fans. As its title implies, Gabe Lee Live at The Diamond was indeed recorded at a concert perâ€" ing was part of a special Q107 radio station Monday night live broadcast, aired Sept. 12. Lee‘s career, which spans over 21 years, has seen him play with a lot of bands at a lot of venues, especially in the Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge areas. At the age of 11 he began playing with his brother Art for King Arthur‘s Knights, a band that apâ€" peared on Kitchener‘s Elaine Cole former Cambridge artist was forced to sing out of necessity. It was then that his audiences convinced him to conâ€" tinue singing because he had a good voice. He stuck to playing at private parties, school events and local bars. Later, he branched out and experâ€" ienced the northern Ontario touring circuit. After moving to Toronto, Lee began working as a recording engineer to Show. By the time he was 16 he was playing illegally in bars. Because bands kept dissolving, Lee then teâ€" cided to go it alone and form his own give him exposure to a studio environâ€" ment Wwhich would ultimately place him in a position to record one day. It was his time at Comfort Sound that allowed him to keep company with some famous people which lead to his instant friendship with the quiet Dan Hill. Hill listened to some of Lee‘s music and struck up a deal which saw them coâ€"writing some of Hill‘s songs. Gabe right away," remembered Meighan O‘Brien, bass guitarist with the band. "Right away he said ‘what‘re you doing tonight". They started writing together right away."
