Today our Junior Math Team made its first appearance, directed by Mrs. Bender. This team of about 60 members is traditionally a strong Bluevale presence. SJK athletes are busy once again. Last weekend the junior basketball team commenced their season at a tournament at St. George‘s in Toronto. The wrestling team attempted to get to Brock University for a tournament but broke down on the Burlington Skyway. Better luck next time guys! The senior basketball team played St. David‘s Nov. 30. On a wider level, Jocelyn Rutherford and Alison Peppler tried out for the Ontario under 18 Field Hockey team and Alison was chosen to play as goaltender on the team. Congratulaâ€" tions also to Sue Smith who competed in the Esso Internaâ€" tionals last week. Out of 106 swimmers from around the world, Sue placed 21st, just out of reach for the finals. Firday, Students Against Drinking and Driving are going to bring us a special assembly, which should be a gond experience. Remember, SADD is always welcoming new members! December events to look forward to: another great dance coming up on the 10th, headed by the Grad Club and open to students in the county; the exciting Christmas Assembly on the 15th; and the start of holidays! SJK hosted a theatre workshop "Theatre in the Rough" about apartheid on Nov. 30 for a number of local schools. Naga Oda presented a slide show about her homeland, Japan, and her rotary exchange to Canada and SJK to the students on December 1st. Students and teachers have filled in their compuâ€"date forms. Everyone‘s ten most compatible partners will be listed in February in time for the Valentine‘s Dance. The Warehouse Weekly, our school newspaper made its debut last week. It proved to be a great success and copies were in demand. * Career week took place at UHSS during the week of Nov 16â€"20. We had many "job specialists" into the school as well as students going out on field trips. * Some of our students went to Seneca College where we learned about fashion designing and cosmetology. A small fashion show was presented. Some graphic arts students visited the Kâ€"W Record and learned about type setting and printing. The life skills class had a tour of the March of Dimes shop location, while other classes visited the Royal Winter Fair where food and agricultural displays were presented. In the horticulture department, we had a guest speaker on interior design using plants We also had a student, Pamela Marcy, present a demonstration about pure bred Angoras. These rabbits she cares for and breeds at home in her spare time. Many other activities also took place. * Thanks to Mrs. Spencer and Mr. Oakes for organizing many of these activities monpay to rrivay $1.99 sreackrast BACON, EGGS, HOME FRIES, TOAST YOUR NEIGHBOURKOOD RESTAURANT St. John‘sâ€"Kilmarnock UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS NORTHFIELD AND WEBER ST. Each chorus rang with elegant articulation, timing and convicâ€" tion; the choir obviously enjoyed every majestic second of it. All sections strived to keep the ageâ€" less material fresh, meeting the ultimate challenge of this Mesâ€" siah from start to finish. and probably the best interpreta tion the choir has ever mastered For Unto Us a Child Is Born proved a definitive highlight, all choir elements crisp and distinct in this jubilant passage. The choir also showcased its complete unâ€" derstanding of Handel‘s difficult text and fluctuating moods in He Trusted in God, If He Delight in Him, displaying accomplished sense of vocal theatrics as they mock Christ‘s crucifixion. All We Like Sheep have Gone Astray marked the choir‘s consistent precision and attention to volume control in this intricate segment. Dyck and the choir had a strong bond, which was demonstrated each time the chorus erupted. The choir soared in the popular Hallelujah chorus, as the Centre crowd traditionally rose to its feet. Overall, it was a breathâ€"takâ€" ing threeâ€"hour performance that didn‘t slow down for one minute. All four soloists had their high points, but it was abundantly clear that mezzoâ€"soprano Catherâ€" ine Robbin stole the show with her amazing insight into this work. Robbin‘s finest moment was certainly choral narration He was Despised and Rejected of Men, an inspiring eloquent aria in range and mood.
